Law Enforcement Seizes Illegal Marijuana Plants and Arrests Motor Vehicle Theft Suspect

On Friday, September 21, 2018, at approximately 1:20 PM, members of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Rural Enforcement and Outreach Unit (REO) and Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence (VNI) executed a search warrant for illegal cultivation of marijuana at an address in the 5200 block of S. Yoder Road. During the search of the property, 116 plants were located with 104 being seized. The investigation is ongoing with criminal charges pending.

Sheriff’s Office Arrests Student in Widefield High School Threat

On September 19, 2018, the Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer assigned to Widefield High School was made aware of a student planning a threat to the school.  As a result of our investigation, a student was charged with Inciting Destruction of Life/Property, a Class Six Felony.

Barricaded Suspect Taken Into Custody Without Incident

On September 17, 2018, at approximately 2:48 PM, Deputies along with a K9 team attempted to contact Amy Weeks, DOB 05/22/87, at an address in the 2300 block of Klein Place.  Ms. Weeks was wanted on several warrants, including a Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Summons that listed her as “Armed and Dangerous”.  The domestic violence incident involved unlawfully discharging a firearm. 

Sheriff's Office Releases All Reports from Flick Shooting

Last week the Colorado Springs Police Department released their report on the February 5, 2018, shooting which claimed the life of Detective Micah Flick, wounded three law enforcement officers and injured Thomas Villanueva.

 

Although the Colorado Springs Police Department was the lead agency, as part of the Deadly Force Investigations Team (DFIT), the Sheriff’s Office interviewed a member of the Colorado Springs Police Department involved in this incident.

Sheriff's Office Looking for Public Assistance in Identifying Fraud Suspects

On June 25, 2018, deputies responded to the 6400 block of Dancing Moon Way in reference to a Criminal Trespass Auto/Fraud case.  When deputies arrived on scene they learned the victim was notified by their bank of several fraudulent charges on their credit card.  The victim then checked their vehicle and noticed the driver door and trunk were both left open.  Several items were missing, including a wallet containing debit/credit cards and gift cards.

On August 23, 2018, at approximately 8:50 AM, deputies were dispatched to the 6800 block of Woodstock Street regarding a shooting.  The reporting party stated her boyfriend shot another male party.

Sheriff's Office Responds to Aircraft Emergency on Judge Orr Road

On Thursday, August 23, 2018, at approximately 1:00 PM, the Sheriff's Office was notified of an aircraft emergency in a field North of Hwy 24 off Judge Orr Road. Deputies from the Sheriff's Office, along with medical and firefighting personnel from the area, responded to the scene.

Sheriff's Office Makes Arrests in Financial Exploitation of Elderly Victim

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has arrested Herbert Meadows (1-9-54) and Cynthia Meadows (8-17-66), a married couple from the Security-Widefield area. They are accused of financially exploiting a 91-year-old victim of approximately $180,000. 

The investigation revealed Herbert & Cynthia Meadows had depleted the victim's bank account to pay their own credit card bills and fund several failed business ventures.

Law Enforcement Makes Arrests In Illegal Marijuana Cultivation in Eastern El Paso County

On Thursday, August 16, 2018, law enforcement executed five search warrants in eastern El Paso County regarding illegal marijuana cultivation.  The addresses include several in the 200-400 Blk Weissenfluh Road and an address in the 33900 Blk Hwy 94.  There were approximately 300 marijuana plants, 72 pounds of processed marijuana, and $11,716 in cash seized.

On Thursday, August 8, 2018, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Rural Enforcement and Outreach Unit (REO) executed a search warrant in the 7700 block of Stockholm Grove in reference to an ongoing investigation into criminally neglected horses.  Deputies were assisted by the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) and Bureau of Animal Protection Agents.

Deputy Sheriff Charged in Fatal Traffic Crash

On Thursday, August 9, 2018, Quinlan Linebaugh, age 29, a Deputy Sheriff with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office was charged with two counts of Careless Driving Resulting in Death and two counts of Careless Driving Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury by the Colorado State Patrol.

Sheriff's Office Announces Fall Citizens' Academy

The Citizens’ Academy will begin on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, and will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The Academy will be conducted over a seven-week period, culminating in a graduation ceremony on October 23, 2018.

At approximately 2:45 AM, Thursday morning, on August 2, 2018, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the 2300 block of East Boulder Street in Colorado Springs in response to a shots fired call for service.

Upon arrival in the area, an officer contacted an adult male suspect in the street.  As other officers began to arrive the suspect produced a handgun and shots were exchanged between the suspect and the police.

On July 26, 2018, at approximately 9:30 am, El Paso County Rural Enforcement Outreach Unit, Pikes Peak Humane Society and the Bureau of Animal Protection (BAP) executed a search warrant at an address in the 4100 block of Ramah Hwy regarding an ongoing animal neglect investigation.

Victim in Highway 94 Homicide Identified

On Sunday, July 22, 2018, at approximately 6:45 AM, the Sheriff's Office received a call of a shooting. Deputies responded to a local hospital where they learned a victim was shot and another was deceased in the 12,000 block of Highway 94.

Deputies responded to the address on Highway 94 and discovered a deceased male. Detectives responded and began to process the scene.

Stage Two Fire Restrictions Downgraded to Stage One for Unincorporated El Paso County

Sheriff’s Office Launches New Behavioral Health Connect Program (BHCON)

On Sunday, July 1, 2018, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will deploy an inaugural co-responder, patrol unit called the Behavioral Health Connect Unit or BHCON (pronounced Beacon).  It was previously named Project CURB.  The BHCON unit pairs an El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy with a Licensed Behavioral Health Clinician from UCHealth's Memorial Hospital to respond to emergency calls determined to have a behavioral health issue as a primary driver.

Sheriff’s Office Asking for Assistance in Locating Missing Woman

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance locating Jane Mudder, DOB: 07/15/62.  Jane was last seen by her landlord on Saturday, May 5, 2018, in the Cascade Area. 
Ms. Mudder is a white female, 5’6”, 122 lbs., brown hair and brown eyes with a dream catcher tattoo on her right arm.

Deceased Female Identified in Springs Mobile Home Community Fire

On June 21, 2018, at approximately 5:18 am, a structure fire was reported at a mobile home in the Springs Mobile Home Community, located at 1095 Western Dr.  Members of the Cimarron Hills Fire Department responded and, after extinguishing the fire, discovered a deceased individual inside the residence.

The deceased has been identified as Judith Barton, who was 67 years of age.  We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Ms. Barton.
