Sheriff's Office Warns of Phone Scam

The Sheriff's Office has received intelligence of another phone scam.  The caller threatens the individual they are speaking with an arrest warrant for missed jury duty.   If they don't follow directions to clear up the warrant(s), they will be arrested.  In these most recent cases, they are using the name of an actual employee of the Sheriff's Office. 

Sheriff Elder Holding Press Conference on Pilot to Implement Co-Responder Program

Sheriff Bill Elder will be holding a press conference on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 3:00 PM, at the Office of the Sheriff, located at 27 E. Vermijo Avenue, where he will introduce the Coordinated Unit Response to Behavioral Health Calls (CURB).

Mental health affects all aspects of law enforcement from interactions on the street to having an inmate population of approximately 60% who suffer from some form of mental illness.

Sheriff's Office Looking for Armed and Dangerous Suspect in Stabbing

On May 1, 2018, at approximately 1:47 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 6400 block of Sayres Road in reference to a Stabbing.

Prior to the deputy’s arrival, it was learned the suspect had fled the scene after stabbing the victim.  The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The suspect has been identified as Nicholas Sambrano, DOB: 12/19/85.  He is driving a 1994 gold Honda Accord bearing a Colorado license plate of OXM124. 

EL PASO COUNTY SHERIFF BILL ELDER PRESENTS CSOC SCHOLARSHIP

Bill Elder, El Paso County Sheriff, is pleased to announce that Mariah Lewis is this year's recipient of the County Sheriffs of Colorado, CSOC, and scholarship award for El Paso County. 

CSOC, Colorado's state sheriffs' association, offered a total of 31 awards of $500 each this year to deserving high school and college students in Colorado to fund higher-level education expenses for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Victim in Shooting at Value Inn Identified

On April 22, 2018, at approximately 12:46 AM, a clerk at the Value Inn located at 6875 Space Village Avenue, called the Sheriff’s Office to report a man with a gun.  As units were responding to the area, dispatch received another call that a man was shot and lying in the middle of the road.  The suspect was reported to have took off on foot.

Burglary Suspect Identified In Officer Involved Shooting

At about 6:15 AM on April 25th, 2018, Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of West 19th street regarding a burglary in progress.  When the first officer arrived the male suspect emerged from the building and fled on foot. 

The officer chased the suspect and the suspect drew a pistol, brandishing it toward a citizen who was also on scene.  The officer fired at the suspect, striking him more than once.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Taz to get Donation of Body Armor

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Taz will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.  K-9 Taz’s vest is sponsored by Michelle and Paul Blaskowski of Colorado Springs, CO and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted by Michelle & Paul Blaskowski”.  Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Stage Two Fire Restrictions Downgraded to Stage One for Unincorporated El Paso County

Deputy Fire Warden John Padgett has ordered Stage I Fire Restrictions for all the unincorporated areas of El Paso County.  The Stage I Fire Restrictions shall go into effect immediately and the following are prohibited:

1.      Open burning, excepting fires and campfires within permanently constructed fire grates in developed

         campgrounds and picnic grounds; charcoal grills and wood burning stoves at private residences in areas

Current Situation: Wildland hand crews, working together with firefighters, engines, and heavy equipment completed containment line around the unsecured portions of the fire. Incident Commander Mark Hatcher announced that the Mile Marker 117 Fire was 100% contained as of end of operational period, Thursday, April 19, 2018.

Hobby Horse Lane Homicide Victims Identified

On Saturday, April 14, 2018, at approximately 1:52 AM, Deputies were dispatched to the 13500 block of Hobby Horse Lane in reference to a check the welfare.  When deputies arrived on scene, they located two deceased individuals.

The victims have been identified as Larry Nelson, DOB 02/11/46 and Pamela Nelson, DOB 12/27/47.

Law Enforcement Seizes Marijuana Plants in Northern Unincorporated El Paso County

On Sunday, April 15, 2018, at approximately 3:40 PM, fire personnel with Donald Westcott Fire Department (DWFD), Tri Lakes Fire Department and Palmer Lake Fire Department (PLFD) responded to a structure at a residence in the 14000 block of Allegiance Dr. Upon making entry into the residence, fire personnel discovered a large marijuana grow and requested law enforcement respond.

Sheriff's Office Investigates Calhan Residential Structure Fire

On Sunday, April 15, 2018, at approximately 1:06 PM, a structure fire was reported at a residence in the 23800 block of Blue Roan Circle.  Members of the Calhan Fire Department responded and, while extinguishing the fire, discovered a deceased individual inside the residence. 

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigator and On Call Detective responded to the scene and will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire.

Update on Shooting in Security

April 6, 2018 - 10:15am

On April 5, 2018, at approximately 8:07 PM, a deputy was at Gladiator and Main Street in Security CO, when she heard several shots fired coming from the Shots Tavern located at 1831 Main Street.  She immediately arrived on scene and was informed by a witness that a white male had just shot at a white SUV that was leaving the parking lot.

The deputy located the suspect while he was still in the parking lot and detained him.

On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, members of the Sheriff's Office Rural Enforcement Outreach, SWAT, Crime Reduction Unit and the Metro Vice Narcotics Intelligence executed two search warrants on properties where there were illegal marijuana grows.

Sheriff's Office Identifies Suspect in Shooting

On March 25, 2018, at approximately 4:52 AM, Deputies, along with other outside agencies, were dispatched to 7393 Bonterra Lane in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the reporting party and a witness, who stated the suspect entered a bedroom and shot at the victim several times before taking his own life. 

The victim is still in critical condition at a local hospital.

The suspect has been identified at Alexander Noy, DOB: 03/19/91.

On Saturday, March 17, 2018, at approximately 5:41 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing 2-year-old named Nain Dominguez DOB: 09/24/15.  Nain was last seen near the Stratmoor Hill Trailhead Park, located at 1215 Forest Road.  El Paso County Deputies along with numerous other resources responded to the location to conduct search operations.

The Carson Midway Fire is now out except for tires and trash piles that are actively burning and smoking in the 20800 block of Prairie Fire Point.  All fire personnel from El Paso County, Pueblo County and Fort Carson have cleared the fire.  Fire personnel from Hanover Fire Department will continue to provide roving patrol of the fire area to monitor the tires and trash piles until they completely burn out.

On Saturday, March 17, 2018, as fire personnel were working the Carson Midway Fire, they discovered a marijuana cultivation operation in the 7900 block of Alaya Way.  A search warrant was obtained by law enforcement.

The Carson Midway Fire is now 100% contained except for tires that are burning in the 20800 block of Prairie Fire Point.  The El Paso County OEM Hazardous Material Team is actively working that fire.  

Fire Personnel from within El Paso County, Pueblo County and Ft. Carson will continue to monitor and attack hot spots today in the fire zone. The El Paso County Deputy Fire Warden is now overseeing operations.   

Suspect Identified in Travel Star Motel Officer Involved Shooting

On March 12, 2018, at 3:30 PM, Colorado Springs Police Officers responded to the Travel Star Motel in the 1700 block of Nevada Avenue on information that Corky Lee Oliver, 11/14/86, wanted on a robbery warrant, was staying there.
