The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Death of Two-Year-Old as An Accidental Drowning

On Saturday, March 17, 2018, at approximately 5:41 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing 2-year-old named Nain Dominguez DOB: 09/24/15.  Nain was last seen near the Stratmoor Hill Trailhead Park, located at 1215 Forest Road.  El Paso County Deputies along with numerous other resources responded to the location to conduct search operations.  

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Releases Update on Carson Midway Fire

The Carson Midway Fire is now out except for tires and trash piles that are actively burning and smoking in the 20800 block of Prairie Fire Point.  All fire personnel from El Paso County, Pueblo County and Fort Carson have cleared the fire.  Fire personnel from Hanover Fire Department will continue to provide roving patrol of the fire area to monitor the tires and trash piles until they completely burn out.

On Saturday, March 17, 2018, as fire personnel were working the Carson Midway Fire, they discovered a marijuana cultivation operation in the 7900 block of Alaya Way.  A search warrant was obtained by law enforcement.

The Carson Midway Fire is now 100% contained except for tires that are burning in the 20800 block of Prairie Fire Point.  The El Paso County OEM Hazardous Material Team is actively working that fire.  

Fire Personnel from within El Paso County, Pueblo County and Ft. Carson will continue to monitor and attack hot spots today in the fire zone. The El Paso County Deputy Fire Warden is now overseeing operations.   

Suspect Identified in Travel Star Motel Officer Involved Shooting

On March 12, 2018, at 3:30 PM, Colorado Springs Police Officers responded to the Travel Star Motel in the 1700 block of Nevada Avenue on information that Corky Lee Oliver, 11/14/86, wanted on a robbery warrant, was staying there.

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Boca Chica Heights Fire

On Thursday, March 15, 2018, at approximately 10:43 am, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received several reports of a vehicle fire in the area of Avenida Hermosa View and Boca Chica Heights.  Numerous departments from surrounding jurisdictions responded with fire personnel, emergency medical personnel and traffic control.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested

On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the arrest of Deputy Michael Christian stemming from an investigation by the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.  Deputy Christian was hired by the Sheriff’s Office in March 2008.  He has been placed on Administrative Leave without pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

Sheriff's Office Investigates Officer Involved Deadly Force Incident

On March 12, 2018, at 3:30 PM, Colorado Springs Police Officers responded to the Travel Star Motel in the 1700 block of Nevada Avenue on information that Corky Lee Oliver, 11/14/86, wanted on a robbery warrant, was staying there.

Upon police arrival, a male suspect barricaded himself inside of the room believed to be occupied by Oliver and told responding officers he was armed and holding a woman hostage.

Taekwondo Coach Convicted In El Paso County Sexual Assault Case

In Early 2017, the Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit began an investigation on a Sexual Assault Case involving suspect Glenn Allan Lainfiesta, DOB: 04/02/73.  Mr. Lainfiesta had been working as a sparring coach at the Academy of Life and Leadership Taekwondo at the Chapel Hills Mall, 1710 Briargate Boulevard in Colorado Springs.

Sheriff’s Office Makes Arrest in Eastern El Paso County Illegal Marijuana Grow

On Thursday, March 1, 2018, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with members of Metro Vice and Narcotics Intelligence (VNI), executed a search warrant at a property in the 33000 block of Big Springs Road regarding an illegal marijuana grow.

On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, the Sheriff’s Office booked Oviel Fuentas- Duran, DOB: 052882, into the El Paso County Jail on two felony charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Marijuana Concentrate.

Sheriff's Office Looking for Assistance in Identifying Robbery Suspect

On December 7, 2017, at approximately 8:09 PM, deputies responded to the Domino's Pizza located at 7376 McLaughlin Road in Unincorporated El Paso County in reference to a robbery.  The suspect entered the store through the front door, went around the counter and pointed what appeared to be a silver or chrome plated semi-automatic handgun at one of the employees.  He told the employee “don’t move."

On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, the Sheriff's Office along with the Colorado Springs Police Department served a notice to the homeless campers who have been living on the Rocky Top Resources property, that they must vacate by Friday, March 9, 2018. 

Sheriff's Office Asking for Assistance in Identifying Theft Suspects

On February 5, 2018, at approximately 4:40 PM, deputies responded to a package theft in the 4200 block of Arvol Circle in Unincorporated El Paso County.  The victim was notified by a neighbor that a package was stolen from the front porch of the residence. 

Sheriff's Office Announces Spring Citizens' Academy

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the Spring Citizens’ Academy.

The Citizens’ Academy will begin on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, and will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The Academy will be conducted over a seven week period, culminating in a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. 

Sheriff's Office Investigating Threats in Widefield School District 3

On February 27, 2018, the Sheriff's Office was made aware of a handwritten threat left in the bathroom at Webster Elementary School.  This threat was investigated fully by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and was deemed to be a non-credible threat.

On Friday, February 9, 2018, at approximately 4:11 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance in the 2400 block of North Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs.  When officers arrived on scene, the suspect had barricaded himself inside the home where the call originated.                   

Sheriff’s Office Honors 9-Year-Old with 911 Hero Award

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be presenting Angelia Rose with the 911 Hero Award on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 1:30 PM, at Jordahl Elementary School, located at 800 Progress Drive in Fountain.

On the evening of December 20th, 2017, nine year old Angelia Rose’s bravery was tested.  Her mother, Angela, was extremely sick with a fever and in a great amount of pain.  It was getting progressively harder for Angela to breathe.

Applications Now Being Taken for Spanish Speaking Citizens' Academy

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) and the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) are now accepting applications for our Spring Spanish Speaking Citizens’ Academy.

The Academy will begin on Thursday, March 8, 2018, and will be held every Thursday, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  There will be eight sessions, culminating in a graduation ceremony on Thursday, April 26, 2018. 

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Seeking Victim Assistance Volunteers

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Assistance Program is seeking motivated individuals to join the ranks of a dedicated, compassionate unit. The Volunteer Assistance Program is composed of citizen volunteers who work with the staff victim advocates to assist crime victims with short-term crisis intervention, information and referrals. These men and women provide: referrals for victims’ compensation and counseling, inform victims of case status, victim rights and help with property return assistance. They also ensure the rights and needs of victims are addressed by department personnel, and attend victim/law enforcement groups on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting an Open House on Monday, February 5th 2018, at 6:30 PM at the Office of the Sheriff, 27 E. Vermijo Avenue.  This event is open to all members of the community who have an interest in learning about this unique opportunity. Members of the media are also welcome to attend. Guests will have the opportunity to receive information and speak with several members about their experiences in the Program.

The proposed 12-week Training Academy is slated to begin on Monday, April 16th, 2018. More detailed information regarding the application and academy process will be detailed during the presentation at the Open House.

Applications are available on-line and should be mailed or delivered to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Volunteer Program Coordinator, 27 E. Vermijo Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Applications must be received no later than Friday, February 9, 2018 by 5:00pm.

Hampton South Homicide Victim Identified

On January 17, 2018, at approximately 3:00 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responding to a call in the 1600 block of Hampton South, regarding a stabbing in progress. When deputies arrived on scene they located the victim who was lying on the ground and he had been stabbed.

The victim was transported to Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

On January 12, 2018, the Sheriff's Office secured felony arrest warrants for three dozen counts of Identity Theft and Felony Theft for brothers Enrique E. Archuleta, DOB: 7-28-93, and Efrain E. Archuleta, DOB: 3-20-97. 

Enrique Archuleta is described as a Hispanic male who is 5'10' tall and 165lbs.  He has black hair and brown eyes.  He is a convicted felon and should be considered armed and dangerous.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce a graduation ceremony for eight inmates who have successfully completed the T4C program at the Criminal Justice Center.  The graduation ceremony will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018, 2:30 PM, at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center Jail, 2739 East Las Vegas Street in the Veteran’s Ward.

Sheriff's Office Makes Arrest in Security Shooting

On Saturday, December 30, 2017, at approximately 1:08 AM, the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding shots fired in the 1300 block of Marsh Hawk Drive in Security.  Deputies were dispatched to the area. Upon arrival, deputies located a female outside of a residence with a gunshot wound. The female was transported to a local hospital and is now in stable condition.
