On Sunday, November, 20, 2022, at 6:45PM, officers with the Fountain Police Department responded to a reported Domestic Violence incident at a home in the 6900 block of Village Meadows Drive in the City of Fountain, Colorado.  An adult female reported to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center her husband was on scene, was intoxicated, and wouldn’t let her leave the home with their son.  She said she managed to escape the home to a neighbor and call 911.  She said her son was still inside the residence with the suspect.

Shortly after officers arrived on scene, an adult male emerged from the residence and fired at least one round from a firearm at responding officers.  At least one officer returned fire with at least one round, striking the suspect at least one time.  No officers were injured.  The child was immediately rescued from inside the home and was not injured.  The suspect violently resisted officers’ efforts to place him into custody.  As a result, a Taser was used to gain the suspect’s compliance.  The suspect was then transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in surgery.  

A shelter in place order was issued for the neighborhood immediately surrounding the scene but was lifted.  There is no known continuing threat to the public from this incident at this time.

In accordance with Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting. This is an ongoing investigation and information will be released as appropriate; no other information is available at this time. All updates, with the exception of naming the involved officers, will come from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Public Information Office.
