Sheriff's Office Warns of Phone Scam Using Employee Name

The Sheriff's Office has received a report of another phone scam.  The caller threatened if the victim did not purchase gift cards that was valued at one thousand dollars legal action would be taken against them.  In these most recent cases, they are using the name of actual employees of the Sheriff's Office and calling from a number that appears to be from the Sheriff's Office.

Today marks four weeks since Gannon went missing. We cannot imagine the ongoing pain Gannon's family must be feeling.  To not know where your child is, is every parent’s worst nightmare.  To not know what happened makes this situation more excruciating.  We acknowledge the grief and heartache his family is experiencing.

We appreciate the community's support and continue to encourage you all to keep Gannon's family in your thoughts and prayers.

 On February 21, 2020, the Metro Crime Lab returned to Gannon's home as a part of our ongoing investigation into his disappearance. 

The investigation continues to progress with multiple agencies working to bring Gannon home.

We have received 718 tips to date. These tips include possible sightings, search suggestions, social media related information, suspicious activity, found property/possible evidence and video/photo/drone evidence.

On January 9, 2020, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Dispatcher Mindy Belger, answered a 9-1-1 call from 12 year old Andrew Gravil.  He proved to everyone he knows how to handle himself when faced with a traumatic event.

Sheriff's Office Spring Citizens' Academy

The Spring Citizens' Academy will begin on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 and will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The Academy will be conducted over a 10 week period, culminating in a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the disappearance of Gannon Stauch.  To date there have been 385 tips received, 2,656 hours of investigative work done by Sheriff’s Office in this case and over 3,600 staff hours put into the search efforts.  This has included large scale searches in addition to small, specific searches. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office investigation continued today in the Lorson Ranch area.  Deputies re-canvassed Gannon's neighborhood and spoke with neighbors.  We did this in a systematic approach to ensure all residents have been interviewed because some may have been away at the time of the initial canvassing.  Those who are in the immediate vicinity of an incident may have useful information to provide.

Sheriff's Office Asks for Assistance in Locating a Juvenile

On January 27, 2020, the Sheriff's Office took a report for a juvenile runaway, eleven year old Gannon Stauch. He was last seen on January 27th, 2020, in his home by his step-mother between 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM, he resides in the 6000 block of Mandan Drive, Security, Colorado. 

Sheriff's Office Investigating a Burglary Case

On January 24, 2020 at approximately 8:48 PM, our Communication Center dispatched deputies to a Business Alarm check at the 2200 block of Waynoka Road. 

Deputies responded and found the front glass framed door to the business shattered.  They searched the business and did not find anyone.  They reviewed surveillance footage and observed the suspect stealing products from the store.  The value of items taken are estimated to be $990.00.   

Sheriff's Office Participates in Colorado Puffer Awareness and Enforcement Week

Colorado Puffer Awareness and Enforcement Week will begin on January 26, 2020 and run through February 1, 2020. Leaving your car running while unattended, known as Puffing, is illegal in Colorado with one exception; Colorado law does exempt vehicles with a remote-start from being ticketed if found running unattended.
 

Deputies in In-Custody Death Investigation Identified

EPSO Press Release: On January 17, 2020, at approximately 9:50 PM, an inmate in the El Paso County Jail died while in custody.  The inmate was housed in the medical section at the time, and passed despite immediate life saving measures by deputies, medical staff and first responders.

The sergeants and deputies involved in this incident are:

Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

January 24, 2020 - 10:30am

On January 21, 2020 at approximately 10:10 AM, our Communication Center received a 911 call in reference to a robbery at the 100 block of Fontaine Blvd.  The caller reported a heavy set Hispanic female pulled a knife on an employee at a coffee shop, stole her vehicle keys and then stole the vehicle.  It was reported the same female also pulled a knife on a nearby Food Truck employee.

Deputies responded and attempted to locate the vehicle without success. 

Barricaded Suspect Taken into Custody on Peterson Road

On January 22, 2020 at approximately 6:29 AM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a call regarding a person threatening parties while inflicting self-harm in a motel room.  This incident occurred in the 600 block of Peterson Road.

Patrol units arrived on scene and set up containment.  They also began evacuating residents of the motel for their safety.
