El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Seeking Victim Assistance Volunteers

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Assistance Program is seeking motivated individuals to join the ranks of a dedicated, compassionate unit. The Volunteer Assistance Program is composed of citizen volunteers who work with the staff victim advocates to assist crime victims with short-term crisis intervention, information and referrals. These men and women provide: referrals for victims’ compensation and counseling, inform victims of case status, victim rights and help with property return assistance. They also ensure the rights and needs of victims are addressed by department personnel, and attend victim/law enforcement groups on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting an Open House on Monday, February 5th 2018, at 6:30 PM at the Office of the Sheriff, 27 E. Vermijo Avenue.  This event is open to all members of the community who have an interest in learning about this unique opportunity. Members of the media are also welcome to attend. Guests will have the opportunity to receive information and speak with several members about their experiences in the Program.

The proposed 12-week Training Academy is slated to begin on Monday, April 16th, 2018. More detailed information regarding the application and academy process will be detailed during the presentation at the Open House.

Applications are available on-line and should be mailed or delivered to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Volunteer Program Coordinator, 27 E. Vermijo Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Applications must be received no later than Friday, February 9, 2018 by 5:00pm.

Hampton South Homicide Victim Identified

On January 17, 2018, at approximately 3:00 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responding to a call in the 1600 block of Hampton South, regarding a stabbing in progress. When deputies arrived on scene they located the victim who was lying on the ground and he had been stabbed.

The victim was transported to Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Sheriff's Office Asking for Assistance in Locating Theft Suspects

January 19, 2018 - 1:00pm

On January 12, 2018, the Sheriff's Office secured felony arrest warrants for three dozen counts of Identity Theft and Felony Theft for brothers Enrique E. Archuleta, DOB: 7-28-93, and Efrain E. Archuleta, DOB: 3-20-97. 

Enrique Archuleta is described as a Hispanic male who is 5'10' tall and 165lbs.  He has black hair and brown eyes.  He is a convicted felon and should be considered armed and dangerous.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce a graduation ceremony for eight inmates who have successfully completed the T4C program at the Criminal Justice Center.  The graduation ceremony will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018, 2:30 PM, at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center Jail, 2739 East Las Vegas Street in the Veteran’s Ward.

Sheriff's Office Makes Arrest in Security Shooting

On Saturday, December 30, 2017, at approximately 1:08 AM, the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding shots fired in the 1300 block of Marsh Hawk Drive in Security.  Deputies were dispatched to the area. Upon arrival, deputies located a female outside of a residence with a gunshot wound. The female was transported to a local hospital and is now in stable condition. 

Sheriff's Office Looking for Public's Assistance in Identifying Suspect in Burglary Case

On November 24, 2017, at approximately 5:26 PM, a suspect walked into the Security Coin Wash located at 382 Main Street in Security, CO.  The suspect used a crowbar to break into two coin operated laundry detergent dispensers and a soda machine.  He did this in front of other customers and asked them not to look.

The suspect caused approximately $1200 in damage to the machines and took over $500 in coins.

Sheriff’s Office Hosts Tip-A-Cop Event to Benefit Colorado Special Olympics

On Thursday, December 7, 2017, from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Sheriff’s Office Deputies will trade in their badges for aprons to wait and bus tables, seat families and serve diners in three Texas Roadhouse restaurants in Colorado Springs and Monument.  Each table will be provided with a donation envelope for a contribution to be made in support of our Special Olympic athletes.

Sheriff's Office Investigates Officer Involved Shooting

On December 2, 2017, at approximately 6:00 PM, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) contacted a male in the vicinity of South Nevada Avenue and East Navajo Street. 

During the encounter the officers attempted to take the suspect into custody for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The suspect resisted the officers and engaged them in a fight.  At some point during the fight the suspect drew a handgun and was shot. 

Sheriff's Office Warns of Phone Scam

The Sheriff's Office has received intelligence of another scam.  In these new cases the suspects are using the name of Sergeant Price.  The messages range from having warrants out for their arrest to civil judgments, in addition to missing a court date.  We have had over 20 reports of this scam, just this week.

Sheriff's Office Participates in Annual Shop with a Cop Event in Association with Candlelighters of Southern Colorado

Shop with a Cop will begin at 7:30 AM, at the Target stores located at 5240 North Academy Boulevard and 3810 Bloomington Street, on December 2, 2017.

Shop with a Cop benefits local Southern Colorado families who have a child suffering with some form of cancer or blood disorder. Families are invited to join local Law Enforcement Officers at local businesses to shop and interact with Deputies. 

Sheriff's Office Looking for Possible Additional Victims in Sexual Assault Case

In May 2017, the Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit began an investigation on a Sexual Assault case.  The suspect in this case has been identified as licensed minister Romello Leach, DOB: 04/13/95.

On November 22, 2017, Leach was arrested and booked into the Criminal Justice Center Jail on multiple felony counts for Sexual Assault on a Child, Pattern of abuse.

Sheriff's Office Asking for Assistance in Identifying Theft Suspects

On November 3, 2017, at approximately 6:05 PM, three suspects entered the Walmart located at 11550 Meridian Market View in Falcon, CO.  The suspects stole two iPad Pros at this location and are reported to have stolen over $4,000 in electronics from four Walmart's in the Colorado Springs/Monument/El Paso areas.  

Sheriff's Office Looking for Public's Assistance in Identifying Suspect in Attempted Theft Case

On November, 7, 2017, at approximately 12:30 AM, the Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a theft.  The reporting party stated on November 5, 2017, between approximately 5:55 - 6:45 AM, a male suspect entered the property of the Colorado Springs Commercial Kitchen located at 6429 Omaha Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO.

The suspect removed a bolt cutter from under his jacket and attempted to steal a red Honda generator from a food truck by cutting the padlocks.

Sheriff's Office Looking for Loaf and Jug Robbery Suspect

On Friday, November 10, 2017, at approximately 5:26 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a silent alarm coming from the Loaf and Jug, located at 6695 Galley Rd. A 911 call was also received reporting a robbery at that location.  Multiple deputies were in the area and responded to the call immediately.

Sheriff's Office Looking to Identify Person of Interest in Missing Person Case

In October of 2017, the Sheriff's Office took a missing persons report for Lisa Ann Knight, DOB: 05/18/76.

Lisa had been reported missing by her parents, with whom she lived, and was last seen May 5, 2017.  She has two teenage children who have not heard from her. Lisa also has a known history of substance abuse, and has gone missing in the past.  This is the longest she has ever been gone and we are concerned for her safety.

Sheriff's Office Looking for Assistance in Identifying Suspect in Sexual Assault

On October 10, 2017, between 6:40 PM-7:40 PM, a juvenile female victim was violently abducted and forced into the back of an SUV in the area of Harvard Street and Widefield Boulevard in Security.  She was subsequently sexually assaulted, then dragged from the vehicle in the area of Widefield Boulevard and Grinnell Boulevard.

Sheriff’s Office Looking for Suspects Involved in Criminal Trespass / Identify Theft Case

On October 5, 2017, at approximately 7:00 pm, suspects broke the rear window of a vehicle in the 13000 block of Ashbrook Heights in El Paso County.  The suspects stole a wallet, including credit cards and a driver’s license.

IN CUSTODY DEATH AT THE El PASO COUNTY JAIL

On October 24, 2017, a 72-year-old male in custody at the El Paso County Jail was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 0500 hours.  Lifesaving efforts were conducted both by in- house personnel and medical first responders.  They were unable to resuscitate the male and he was pronounced deceased at 0528 hours.

On October 12, 2017, at approximately 11:30 PM, three suspects exited out of an employee only door at the King Soopers located at 7915 Constitution Avenue in Colorado Springs, CO.  The suspects took three shopping carts full of merchandise without paying, totaling almost $1,600.
 
The first suspect is a white male in his 20-30’s, wearing a black hat and gray plaid jacket with a hood.

Sheriff's Office Goes Live with New Records Management System

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is proud to announce we have gone live with a new Law Enforcement Records Management System (LERMS) at 6:00 AM this morning.

This has been a long, complex project involving three law enforcement agencies, two Information Technology departments and the vendor, in addition to converting data from two different criminal justice systems.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is asking for assistance in locating Jason Todd Alpin, DOB: 10/25/79.

Alpin has been involved in multiple crimes throughout El Paso County and has outstanding warrants for the following:

1st Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon
2nd Degree Burglary
Possession of a Weapon by Previous Offender
Motor Vehicle Theft
