Sheriff’s Office Holds April Virtual Community Conversations

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is excited to have our fourth virtual Community Conversations. These Conversations will take place once a month and will target a different area of our vast and diverse community. The goals of Community Conversations are:

• To build trust and mutual respect between members of the El Paso County Community and law enforcement, especially the Sheriff’s Office;

Sexual Exploitation of a Child Suspect Arrested, Seeking Potential Victims

In January of 2021, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office initiated a criminal investigation into numerous reports of illegal activity associated to house parties in the Colorado Springs area. During the on-going investigation, the suspect, 21-year-old Caleb Anderson (DOB: 07/29/1999) was found with multiple images and videos of child pornography.

On April 6, 2021, Anderson was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on Sexual Exploitation of a Child and Identity Theft.

Sheriff's Office Investigating Officer Involved Shooting at Chelton Road and Delta Drive

April 5, 2021 - 8:45pm

On April 5, 2021, at approximately 12:20 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department Communications center dispatched officers to an armed robbery that was occurring at a convenience store located in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue. It was reported there were multiple suspects that fled the scene in a silver Toyota 4-Runner.

Barricaded Suspect Taken into Custody on Cree Drive

April 2, 2021 - 9:30pm

On April 2, 2021, at 1:52 PM, deputies were attempting to locate a suspect in the 1100 block of Cree Drive. 

Deputies identified the suspect, who was wanted on a felony warrant, inside a home. The suspect did not comply with deputies but instead, barricaded inside the home. 

The Tactical Support Unit arrived on scene to attempt to gain compliance from the suspect. 

Inmate Identified in Suicide at the El Paso County Jail

On Monday, March 29, 2021, at approximately 5:54 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail. 

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging. When additional deputies responded to the ward, the inmate was not breathing and had no pulse. The deputies initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding medical staff.

On Monday, March 29, 2021, at approximately 5:54 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.   

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging. When additional deputies responded to the ward, the inmate was not breathing and had no pulse. The deputies initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding medical staff.  

Arrest Made in Sexual Assault Case

Arrest Made in Sexual Assault Case

On March 18, 2021, one of our School Resource Officers received information of an alleged sexual assault. The victim was able to name the suspect.  

The investigation involved allegations of sexual assault on an 18-year-old female victim by Russel Shafer (DOB:06/25/1984) who is a volunteer Firefighter with the Hanover Fire Department, and has been placed on suspension.

Sheriff's Office Asking for Public's Assistance with Old Pueblo Road Homicide

On March 15, 2021, at approximately 1:35 PM, our Communications Center dispatched deputies to the intersection of Old Pueblo Road and Midway Ranch Road on a report of a body found.

Upon arriving on scene, deputies discovered a deceased adult female.

The victim has been identified at Alison Cantrell, 33. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Ms. Cantrell.

Death Investigation on Old Pueblo Road Upgraded to Homicide and Victim Identified

On March 15, 2021, at approximately 1:35 PM, our Communications Center dispatched deputies to the intersection of Old Pueblo Road and Midway Ranch Road on a report of a body found.

Upon arriving on scene, deputies discovered a deceased adult female.

The victim has been identified at Alison Cantrell, 33. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Ms. Cantrell.

Sheriff's Office Conducting Death Investigation

On March 15, 2021, at approximately 1:35 PM, our Communications Center dispatched deputies to the intersection of Old Pueblo Road and Midway Ranch Road on a report of a body found.

Upon arriving on scene, deputies discovered a deceased adult female.

The identity of the victim will not be released until positive identification has been made by the Coroner's Office and the next of kin has been notified.

In February, 2021, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office initiated a criminal investigation into numerous reports of the selling of illegal firearms. During the on-going investigation, the suspect, 19-year-old Mauricio Matestic (DOB: 05/23/2001) was found with multiple images and videos of child pornography. 

Sheriff's Office Identifies Victim and Suspect in Murder/Suicide on North Curtis Road

On March 2, 2021, at approximately 6:13 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 5700 block of North Curtis Road to a shooting. Deputies found two deceased adults on scene and another adult was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff's Office Investigates Homicide/Suicide on North Curtis Road

On March 2, 2021, at approximately 6:13 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 5700 block of North Curtis Road to a shooting.

Deputies found two deceased adults on scene and another adult was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.

The names of the deceased will be released as soon as the Coroner has made positive identification and the next of kin for both have been notified.

Sheriff's Office Warns of Phone Scam Using Former and Current Employees Names

The Sheriff's Office has received intelligence of another phone scam.  The caller threatens the individual they have an active warrant and must bring money/money order/prepaid card and meet at a specific location to pay to clear up the warrant. If they don't pay, they will be arrested.  In these most recent cases, they are using the names of current and former employees of the Sheriff's Office.  

Stage One Fire Restrictions Will be Lifted for Unincorporated El Paso County

Effective at Noon on Monday, March 1, 2021, Stage One Fire Restrictions will be lifted for Unincorporated El Paso County.  We request you contact your local Fire Protection District or Department before engaging in any open burning that has been allowed in the past. 

Victims and Suspect in Triple Homicide/Suicide on Loomis Avenue Identified

On February 3, 2021, at approximately 4:58 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 4300 block of Loomis Avenue at a four-plex complex as callers reported hearing numerous gunshots.

Upon arrival deputies three deceased persons on scene and one adult was transported to a nearby hospital.  On Thursday, February 4, 2021, the victim who was transported to the hospital succumbed to his injuries.

On February 3, 2021, at approximately 4:58 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 4300 block of Loomis Avenue at a four-plex complex as callers reported hearing numerous gunshots.

The Sheriff's Office has a long-standing partnership with Special Olympics Colorado and their wonderful athletes. For many years, the Sheriff's Office has been a state leader not only in fundraising but event participation.  The Special Olympics is a global organization that serves athletes with intellectual disabilities working with hundreds of thousands of volunteers and coaches each year.

The El Paso County Jail Lobby Reopens After Completion of Remodel

The El Paso County Jail's lobby is now open after the completion of an extensive remodel of the lobby and front desk area which will increase the health, safety, and overall efficiencies for all those who utilize the Jail. This project began in August 2020.

Upon arrival, officers and deputies found an adult female deceased from a gunshot wound.

On January 14, 2021, at approximately 4:26 PM, Palmer Lake Police Department Officers and our deputies responded to a Shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Highway 105.

Upon arrival, officers and deputies found an adult female deceased from a gunshot wound.

Through a mutual agreement between the Sheriff's Office and Palmer Lake Police Department, the Sheriff's Office will be the lead investigative agency in this case.

The Sheriff's Office is looking for 15 year old runaway, Shanay Ringenoldus.

Shanay is described to have brown hair, blue eyes, is 5' 6", and weighs approximately 110 pounds.

She has a tattoo of a heart on her chest, pierced nose, pieced top and bottom of each ear.
