Sheriff's Office Makes Arrests in Shooting on Longhorn Point

On August 23, 2020, at approximately1:41 AM, the Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a shooting at a property in the 20000 block of Longhorn Point, located in unincorporated El Paso County, Colorado.

Sheriff's Office Investigates Theft Case

November 28, 2020 - 3:30pm

On November 27, 2020, between approximately 2:30 PM through 2:50 PM, a package theft occurred in the 5000 block of Old Stage Coach Road. The suspect vehicle drives up to the entrance of the driveway, exits vehicle, walks up to the victim’s porch and steals a package from it.

The suspect is described as a white male, in the age range of mid 50's through late 60's, short gray/white hair, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and light brown boots.

Sheriff's Office Investigating Attempted Murder Case

November 21, 2020 - 9:30pm

On November 21, 2020, at approximately 2:50 PM, deputies responded to the 900 block of Harbourne Street for a shots fired call.

Upon arrival, deputies learned the suspect had parked outside the victim's home and contacted the occupants. A short time later the suspect produced a handgun and attempted to rob the homeowners. One of the homeowners obtained a handgun and multiple gunshots were exchanged.  

Sheriff's Office Investigates a Theft Case

November 20, 2020 - 12:20pm

On November 18, 2020, at approximately 9:00 AM, a package theft occurred in the 6700 block of Mission Road. The suspect vehicle drives through the neighborhood, a suspect exits the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect walks up to the victim’s porch and steals a package from it.

Sheriff's Office Investigates Vehicle Break-In

November 18, 2020 - 11:50am

On November 16, 2020, at approximately 3:13 AM, a vehicle break-in and theft occurred in the 5600 block of Alturas Drive. The suspect was seen on the victim’s home security camera footage standing on the rear driver side tire while opening the tool box in the truck bed and stealing tools. 

Sheriff's Office Investigating Officer Involved Shooting at Fort Carson Gate 2

November 5, 2020 - 1:45pm

On November 4, 2020, at approximately 4:45 AM, a Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) sergeant was flagged down by a citizen reporting a suspicious vehicle who had followed them for several miles in an aggressive manner.  The reporting citizen pointed out the suspect vehicle which was located in the area.  The CSPD sergeant attempted to contact the suspect vehicle but the vehicle fled the area. The sergeant called out over his radio to other units to be on the lookout.

The Sheriff's Office Continues to Investigate a Missing Person Case

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is asking for the public’s assistance locating Jane Mudder.  Jane is described as a 57 year old white female, 5’6”, 122 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She also has a dream catcher tattoo on her right arm.

Stage Two Fire Restrictions Downgraded to Stage One for Unincorporated El Paso County

Sheriff Bill Elder has downgraded Stage Two Fire Restrictions to Stage One Fire Restrictions for all of the unincorporated areas of El Paso County.  The Stage I Fire Restrictions shall go into effect immediately and the following are prohibited:

1.      Open burning, excepting fires and campfires within permanently constructed fire grates in developed

         campgrounds and picnic grounds; charcoal grills and wood burning stoves at private residences in areas

More Staff Test Positive for COVID-19 at the El Paso County Jail

In the past 24 hours, 14 deputies have lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19. This brings the current total of infected employees to 16 this week. All employees and inmates who have had direct or indirect contact, or other work-related contact have been notified. Approximately 412 employees and 300 inmates have been tested this week.

Two Deputies and Eight Inmates Test Positive for COVID-19

In the past 24 hours two more deputies and eight inmates have lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19. The deputies and inmates have been isolated and all employees and inmates who have had direct or indirect contact, or other work-related contact have been contacted and/or notified.

Sheriff's Office Investigates Theft Cases

October 27, 2020 - 9:45am

On October 21, 2020, between approximately 1:00 PM through 3:50 PM, packages were delivered to the 10000 block of Deer Meadow Circle as well as the 6000 block of Kettle Fire Trail. Shortly after the packages were delivered, the packages were stolen. No one else was seen in the area with the suspect, however the suspect was seen as a passenger in a vehicle on video footage.

Sheriff's Office Investigating Multiple Vehicle Break-ins

In recent months, there has been an increase of vehicle break-ins at trail heads. Preliminary investigation has revealed suspects watching for victims to hide purses/wallets in their vehicle. They wait until it's clear then smash windows to steal those hidden items. In many instances they immediately go to a nearby store to use the stolen credit cards to purchase big ticket items as well as gift cards. 

Husband and Wife Duo Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Fraud

On April 13, 2020, detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit apprehended Ryan Carneal, DOB: 6/1/76, when he arrived at the El Paso County courthouse for a hearing. Carneal has been charged with fourteen felonies related to identity theft, aggravated motor vehicle theft, forgery, cyber-crimes and other fraud related offenses.  Mr. Carneal was sentenced on October 19, 2020, to 15 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

Inmate Who Escaped from El Paso County Jail Back in Custody

On October 18, 2020, at approximately 11:45 AM, an inmate who was housed in the Sprung Structure on the El Paso County Jail campus scaled the barbed wire fence and escaped from custody of the El Paso County Jail.

Multiple resources from the Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies were deployed and the inmate was located in less than an hour, was treated for his injuries, and booked back into the jail.

Sheriff’s Office Asking for Assistance in Locating Suspect Involved in Shooting

September 30, 2020 - 4:30pm

On September 30, 2020, at approximately 4:16 AM, deputies were dispatched to a shooting in the 400 block of Crestridge Avenue.

Deputies responded to the area and located a gunshot victim. The victim was bleeding profusely. A deputy provided life saving measures and was able to control the bleeding prior to medical personnel arriving. The adult victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Sheriff's Office Arrests Suspect in Homicide Case

On May 13, 2020, at approximately 1:36 PM, our Communications Center dispatched Manitou Springs Police officers to El Paso Boulevard in Manitou Springs on a Check the Welfare call.  After arriving on scene, officers discovered a deceased male inside a residence.

Due to the suspicious circumstances found, Manitou Springs Police Department asked for the assistance of our Investigations Division. 

Barricaded Suspect Taken into Custody on Clifford Drive

On September 19, 2020, at approximately 3:58 PM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a Domestic Violence situation occurring in the 14000 block of Clifford Drive located in Peyton, Colorado.  

The suspect was later identified as Craig Jackson, DOB: 03/18/1954.

The female caller reported her sister may be in harms way and was being threatened to be killed.  

Two Suspects for Sex Offender Registration Violation Arrested in Kentucky

On September 3, 2020, we released a media release attempting to locate Brendan Camous (DOB: 07/10/93) and Clinton Peterson (DOB: 05/28/91).

Camous has two felony and one misdemeanor arrest warrants for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Failure to Comply with a SAC (Sex Assault on a Child) Sentence and Failure to Appear on a Driving Under the Influence charge.

Victim in Stratmoor Hills Homicide Identified

September 16, 2020 - 3:00pm

On Saturday, September 12, 2020, at approximately 10:52 AM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a call indicating a shooting occurred in the 1600 block of Maxwell Street.  When deputies arrived on scene, they found a deceased female. The investigation revealed that during the incident, at least one shot had been fired at a second victim.

Sheriff’s Office Asking for Assistance in Locating Suspect Wanted for Attempted Sexual Assault & Kidnapping

On September 14, 2020, at approximately 3:45 AM, at a gas station located in the 1000 block of 5th Street in Calhan, Colorado, a white male approached a victim and demanded a ride at gun point. The victim did not have keys to the vehicle therefore the suspect escorted the victim into the store still at gun point. 

The suspect was last seen leaving the area of the GOCO baseball field between approximately 4:15 through 4:20 AM.

Suspect Arrested in Highway 24 Homicide Case

September 11, 2020 - 11:51am

On July 31, 2020, at approximately 6:03 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call from a party who reported seeing a person laying on the side of the road on Highway 24 in Cascade.

Deputies responded to the area and discovered an adult female deceased.

The victim was identified as, 22-year-old, Dedrea L. Duncan.  

Sheriff’s Office Asking for Assistance in Locating Two Suspects for Sex Offender Registration Violation

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate Brendan Camous (DOB: 07/10/93) and Clinton Peterson (DOB: 05/28/91).

Camous is 5’6” tall, weighs 160 lbs with brown hair and brown eyes. He has two felony and one misdemeanor arrest warrants for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Failure to Comply with a SAC (Sex Assault on a Child) Sentence and Failure to Appear on a Driving Under the Influence charge.

Sheriff's Office Looking for Missing 11-Year-Old

On Friday, August 28, 2020, Christopher Pena went looking for missing cows with his younger brother on his family's property, which is located in the 24,600 block of Myers Road.  By 6:00 PM, the younger son had returned, but Christopher had not.  The Sheriff's Office and El Paso County Search and Rescue have been searching throughout the night and into this morning in an attempt to locate Christopher with negative results.

On August 28, 2020, at approximately 12:18 AM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call regarding shots being fired near the Walgreens, located at 7392 McLaughlin Road.

Victim in Plane Crash on McCandlish Road Identified

August 28, 2020 - 2:00pm

On August 26, 2020, at approximately 11:37 AM, the El Paso Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a plane crash in the 6000 block of McCandlish Road. The caller stated the aircraft appeared to be attempting to land when it flipped over and came to rest upside down.

Sheriff's Office Seeking Information for Active Investigation

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation in August 2020, investigating criminal allegations that occurred in base housing on Schriever Air Force Base.
