Male Found Deceased

March 14, 2019 - 5:00pm

On Thursday, March 14, 2019, Search and Rescue responded a call for service in the 30,200 block of Antioch Road.  When they arrived on scene, they found a deceased male and a hypothermic female.  The female is being treated on scene and is expected to survive.

The identity of the male will not be released until positive identification has been made by the Coroner’s Office.

This is an active investigation and information will be released as the investigation allows.

El Paso County Sheriff's Office Investigating Animal Cruelty Case

On March 10, 2019 at approximately 2:30 PM, a deputy from the Rural Enforcement Outreach Team was contacted by multiple parties in reference to an animal neglect complaint in the 3200 block of Slocum Road and a search warrant was obtained for the property.

Sheriff’s Office Responds to Report of an Explosion in Eastern El Paso County

On March 7, 2019, at approximately 9:14 a.m., deputies with the Rural Enforcement and Outreach Unit (REO) were dispatched to a house under construction, in the 24000 Block of East Hwy 24, to assist the Calhan Fire Department on a report of an explosion. 

Suspect in Overnight Pursuit Identified

On March 4, 2019, at approximately 11:17 p.m.  Deputies observed a Blue BMW, with no visible registration, pull into the Super 8 Motel located at 605 Peterson Road.  As deputies initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of the motel, the driver of the vehicle drove into the deputy’s patrol vehicle. The Deputies pursued driver until he was successfully apprehended near Colorado and 31st Street.

Sheriff’s Office Announces Crisis Intervention Training Graduation

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office hosted a week-long Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) attended by civilian and sworn personnel from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Springs Police Department and Teller County Sheriff’s Office.  The intense 40-hour specialized training is designed to equip law enforcement with the knowledge on how to respond, de-escalate and divert a situation involving a mental health crisis in our community. 

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the Spring Citizens’ Academy

The Citizens’ Academy will begin on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 and will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The Academy will be conducted over a seven-week period, culminating in a graduation ceremony on May 28, 2019

Suspect in Deja Vu Showgirls Shooting Taken into Custody in Oregon

On February 22, 2019 at approximately 12:12 AM, the Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received multiple calls from the Déjà vu Showgirls, located in the 2100 black of B Street regarding a man shooting at the establishment.  

Upon arrival, deputies learned that man became upset when asked to leave and began shooting at the manager and two bouncers when he left.  Nobody was injured, although several rounds struck the front of the building.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the graduation ceremony for 20 deputies who have successfully completed the 18-2 Detentions Academy.  The graduation ceremony will be held Friday, February 8, 2019, 3:00 PM, at Village Seven Presbyterian Church, 4040 Nonchalant Circle South. 

Sheriff’s Office Asks for Help Identifying Suspects in Criminal Trespass Auto Case

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of a criminal trespass auto that occurred overnight between January 29-30, 2019 at the 700 block of Pennington Dr.  The victim’s purse containing credit/debit cards, house keys and approximately $4500 in cash was stolen from an unlocked vehicle. 

Sheriff's Office Warns the Community of Phishing Scam Using Sheriff’s Office Email Address

The Sheriff's Office has received intelligence of a “phishing” scam that is going around using the email address of the Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Coordinator.  The email message states that a contract is in the process of being terminated with an invoice attached for the recipient to review.

Victim in Homicide on Lashelle Avenue Identified

On Friday, January 18, 2019, at approximately 2:58 PM, the Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a call regarding a shooting in the 4300 block of Lashelle Avenue.  When deputies arrived on scene they found a deceased male.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Alexsander Warfield.  The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Coroner's Office once they have all the information to make a ruling.

Suspect in Nigerian Romance Scam Arrested

In February of 2018, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Financial Crimes Unit began an investigation regarding a  Nigerian Romance Scam.  The investigation revealed the suspect came to the United States in early 2017, on a student visa and immediately started his scam.

On Saturday, January 12, 2019, at approximately 4:50 AM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department(CSPD) contacted a suspicious male party in a stolen vehicle parked in the parking lot of Elevate Apartments, located in the 400 block of Crestone Lane.   During the contact, the male party began struggling with officers and shots were fired.  The suspect was armed with a hatchet.

Sheriff Elder is pleased to announce on Saturday, January 12, 2018, the Criminal Justice Center was awarded the American Correctional Association (ACA) Accreditation, at their conference in New Orleans, LA. The audit took place in October of 2018, and measures the Sheriff’s Office Detention Bureau’s ability to staff and maintain a detention facility that complies with ACA set standards and include:

• 60 mandatory standards and 324 non-mandatory standards

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) and the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) will be accepting applications for the Spanish Citizens’ Academy starting January 7, 2019.

The Citizens’ Academy will begin on Thursday, March 21, 2019, and will be held every Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  There will be eight sessions, culminating in a graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

On January 4, 2019, at approximately 2:53 AM, deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 4900 block of Sapphire Drive for a report of an attempted Burglary.  Two suspects attempted to enter the residence while a third suspect waited in a silver late model small SUV, possibly Honda CRV, or similar.

Ellicott High School Teacher Arrested

In December an investigation began regarding child pornography.  As a result of this investigation, law enforcement has arrested Patrick McMahon, DOB: 2/23/90.

Detectives contacted McMahon at Ellicott High School on January 7, 2019 and was taken into custody without incident.  He has been booked into the Criminal Justice Center on the charge of Sexual Exploitation of a Child and is being held without bond.

Behavioral Health Connect Program (BHCON) Second Quarter Statistics

Mental Health issues affect every aspect of law enforcement from encounters on the street through to incarceration.  Since being elected in 2015, Sheriff Bill Elder has committed to ensuring our workforce is well trained and ready to respond to the mental health needs of our community. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training and Crisis Intervention training is provided to EPSO deputies to prepare them to interact with this segment of our population.
 

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Knox to Get Donation of Body Armor

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Knox will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K-9 Knox’s vest is sponsored by Paula Rayer of Peyton, CO in memory of her mother, Lynn D. Rayer and will be embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Lynn D. Rayer”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Sheriff's Office Looking for Suspect in Armed Robbery

On January 2, 2019, at approximately 1:06 AM, deputies were dispatched to the Maverick station in the 2400 block of Peterson Road in regard to an armed robbery which had just occurred. 

Upon arrival deputies determined that an unknown suspect presented a semi-automatic handgun to the clerk and demanded money from the register. 

The suspect left in a westerly direction on Constitution with an unknown amount of money.
