On December 17, 2023, deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance at an address in the 8100 block of Piute Rd in unincorporated El Paso County.
A 36-year-old male was detained at about 8 p.m. in an EPSO marked vehicle with charges for domestic violence, 2nd Degree Kidnapping, Menacing, and 3rd Degree Assault.
While the investigation was being conducted, the suspect manipulated his restraints, removed his belt, using it to asphyxiate himself.
Deputies found the suspect unresponsive and immediately began life-saving efforts until relieved by Ft. Carson Fire Department personnel. He was found to have a pulse and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect’s family was contacted and appraised of the situation.
