El Paso County Sheriff's Office Investigates Officer Involved Shooting at North Carefree Circle and North Academy Boulevard
On November 15, 2021, at approximately 4:07 p.m., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers were in the area of North Academy Boulevard and Half Turn Road following up on information to locate a male suspect who had multiple felony and misdemeanor warrants. They also obtained information that the suspect was possibly armed with a firearm.
Sheriff's Office Makes Arrest in Years Long Fraud Investigation
In March of 2019, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into a report of the theft of a large sum of money from the trust fund of former local resident Larry Ochs who passed away
in 2003. The investigation determined that, starting around 2012 and continuing for several years, a trustee for this fund unlawfully removed varying amounts of money from the trust totaling over $700,000.
EPSO Investigates Industrial Accident Resulting In Death
On November 16, 2021, at 11:44 AM, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Communications Section received a 911 call from a person reporting a worker at a commercial construction site in the 7000 block of Wayfarer Drive in Security/Widefield had been run over by a vehicle. When EPSO Patrol Division deputies and members of the Security Fire Department arrived on scene, they discovered an unresponsive adult male with serious injuries to his head. Sadly, the man died on scene.
Sheriff's Office Conducts Fire Investigation on Howard Street in Green Mountain Falls
On November 9, 2021, at approximately 4:37 a.m., our Communications Center received reports of a house fire. Neighbors observed flames exiting a home located in the 6800 block of Howard Street. A neighbor, who is an off-duty firefighter, attempted entry into the house but was forced out due to the heat. Green Mountain Falls Fire Department and the Green Mountain Falls Marshall responded.
***UPDATE*** Sheriff's Office Investigates Shooting On Old Stage Road
As was previously reported in EPSO Media Release #21-118 on November 6, 2021, the Sheriff's Office continues to actively investigate a shooting that occurred on that date along Old Stage Road in unincorporated El Paso County. A juvenile was shot during this incident and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Sheriff's Office Investigates Shots Fired Into A Home
On November 7, 2021, just after 7:00 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call from a person reporting multiple gun shots heard in or around the 600 block of Widick Street, which is a dense residential neighborhood in unincorporated El Paso County.
Sheriff's Office Investigates Shooting on Old Stage Road
This morning, November 6, 2021, between 2:00 a.m. - 2:30 a.m., a shooting occurred in the 2300 block of Old Stage Road. The shooting occurred alongside a dirt road located in the Cheyenne Mountain State Park.

Sheriff's Office Seeking Assistance in Locating Suspect in Sexual Assault on a Child Case
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) is looking for a suspect in a Sexual Assault on a Child case. The suspect has been identified as, 31-year-old, Roger Brandon Abeyta.
Mr. Abeyta currently has multiple active felony warrants for numerous charges, to include but not limited to, Sexual Assault on a Child and Internet Luring of a Child.
Mr. Abeyta is known to use multiple names and frequently changes his appearance.
Suspect in Officer Involved Shooting on South Nevada Avenue Identified
On October 28, 2021, at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Communications Center received a report of a man firing rounds from a handgun into an occupied vehicle in a parking lot located in the 1600 block of South Nevada Avenue. That location is a business area of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Prior to CSPD officers arriving on scene, the vehicle in which rounds were fired into left the area and the suspect fled on foot.
EPSO Seeking Public Assistance Locating Pick-Up That Rammed Sergeant’s Patrol Car
On Monday, November 1, 2021, just before 1:00 AM, an EPSO sergeant on patrol was investigating a suspicious vehicle parked in a construction area north of Constitution Avenue and Shawnee Drive in the Cimarron Hills area of unincorporated El Paso County.
Sheriff's Office Identifies Victims and Suspect of Murder/Suicide on Pleier Drive
On October 30, 2021, at approximately 10:08 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 1300 block of Pleier Drive on a report of someone on scene who was seriously injured and needed help.
Based on the information our Communications Center received from this person, El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies, Monument Police Department officers, Palmer Lake Police Department officers, and members of the Donald Wescott Fire Department, and AMR (American Medical Response), responded.

El Paso County Sheriff's Office Arrests Fraud Suspect
On January 28, 2021, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Financial Crimes Unit began an investigation into allegations of a scheme. The allegations involved a suspect deceiving multiple victims of promised services which were never provided.
The investigation revealed the suspect, Richard Reynolds (DOB: 01/19/1979) of the Black Forest Retreat, promised all-inclusive wedding services and instead of fulfilling the agreed upon services, nothing was provided and he kept the money.

On October 22, 2021, at around 8:41 PM, the Sheriff's Office Dispatch received numerous 911 calls from citizens reporting multiple gun shots having just been fired in the 600 block of Empress Circle in unincorporated El Paso County.
Suspect in Officer Involved Shooting at Maizeland Road and North Academy Boulevard Identified
On October 7, 2021, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Robbery Detectives contacted a vehicle at Maizeland Road and North Academy Boulevard. This vehicle was believed to be involved in multiple bank robberies.
Deceased Woman in Douglas County has been Identified
The body of a deceased adult female was located on October 9, 2021, off Highway 83 and North Pinery Parkway, in Douglas County. The woman has preliminarily been identified by our detectives as a woman from an El Paso County Case.
The body was subsequently recovered by members of the Douglas County Search and Rescue.
The Douglas County Coroner's Office has identified the deceased woman as 55-year-old Sara Bayard.
El Paso County Jail Inmate Identified in Death Investigation
On September 27, 2021, at around 8:00 PM, an adult male inmate at the El Paso County Jail was found unresponsive during a routine welfare check. Deputies and jail medical staff began lifesaving efforts. These efforts were, unfortunately, not effective. Preliminary investigation revealed nothing suspicious surrounding the incident.
The inmate has been identified as William Johnson, age 36. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Johnson's family and friends.

El Paso County Jail Inmate Who Died of Medical Emergency Identified
On September 25, 2021, at approximately 12:03 AM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.
A man fell to the ground as he was making his way to the bathroom. Deputies and medical staff responded to the ward and helped the inmate sit up at which time he was conscious and breathing. Medical staff members and deputies remained with the inmate.
The Sheriff's Office Continues to Investigate a Missing Person Case
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is asking for the public’s assistance locating Jane Mudder. Jane is described as a 57-year-old white female, 5’6”, 122 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She has a dream catcher tattoo on her right arm.
Sheriff's Office Asks for Assistance in Locating Missing Adult
On July 4, 2021, at approximately 6:07 p.m., our Communications Center received a report of a missing 55-year-old woman, Sara Bayard.
The reporting party said she last spoke to her on June 27, 2021.
Ms. Bayard was last seen at a convenience store in Parker, Colorado on June 28, 2021.
Ms. Bayard is likely in her Blue, 2001 Buick Park Avenue sedan which bears Colorado License Plate BWE652.
