Sheriff’s Office Asking for Assistance in Locating Suspect Wanted for Attempted Murder

On March 7, 2020, at approximately 5:40 PM, a 9-1-1 call was received at our Communication Center from a reporting party indicating she was just shot at.  The reporting party stated she was waved down by a female and decided to give her a ride.  Shortly thereafter, a male in another vehicle pulled up next to them and shot several rounds in their direction.  Neither of the females were injured.  This occurred at Space Village Avenue and South Marksheffel Road.

On Saturday September 16, 2017, Palmer Lake Police Department received a call for service of a missing person. A search of the mountainous area of Mount Herman was conducted by members of the community and the El Paso County Search and Rescue Team.

On Thursday, February 27, 2020, at approximately 03:42 AM, an off-duty officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) called our Communication Center through the 9-1-1 phone line.  The off-duty officer reported he was involved in a shooting in the drive-through of a fast food restaurant, located at the 1000 block of Space Center Drive. 

Arrest Made in Gannon Stauch Case

On March 2, 2020, at approximately 8:04 AM, MST, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Detectives, FBI Agents, and members from the El Paso County 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office arrested Letecia Stauch (DOB 08/04/1983) in Horry County, South Carolina.

Letecia Stauch will be held at the Horry County Jail on the charges of:

Murder in the First-Degree (Child Under Twelve-Position of Trust §18-3-102(1)(f)),

On Thursday, February 27, 2020, at approximately 03:42 AM, an off-duty officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) called our Communication Center through the 9-1-1 phone line.  The off-duty officer reported he was involved in a shooting in the drive-through of a fast food restaurant, located at the 1000 block of Space Center Drive. 

Deputies arrived and performed life saving measures on an unknown male; however, he succumbed to his injuries while on scene.

On Thursday, February 27, 2020, at approximately 03:42 AM, an off-duty officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) called our Communication Center through the 9-1-1 phone line.  The off-duty officer reported he was in the drive-through of a fast food restaurant, located at the 1000 block of Space Center Drive, when an unknown person broke into his vehicle and threatened him with a weapon.  At least one round was fired by the off-duty officer at the unknown person.

Sheriff's Office Warns of Phone Scam Using Employee Name

The Sheriff's Office has received a report of another phone scam.  The caller threatened if the victim did not purchase gift cards that was valued at one thousand dollars legal action would be taken against them.  In these most recent cases, they are using the name of actual employees of the Sheriff's Office and calling from a number that appears to be from the Sheriff's Office.

Today marks four weeks since Gannon went missing. We cannot imagine the ongoing pain Gannon's family must be feeling.  To not know where your child is, is every parent’s worst nightmare.  To not know what happened makes this situation more excruciating.  We acknowledge the grief and heartache his family is experiencing.

We appreciate the community's support and continue to encourage you all to keep Gannon's family in your thoughts and prayers.

 On February 21, 2020, the Metro Crime Lab returned to Gannon's home as a part of our ongoing investigation into his disappearance. 

The investigation continues to progress with multiple agencies working to bring Gannon home.

We have received 718 tips to date. These tips include possible sightings, search suggestions, social media related information, suspicious activity, found property/possible evidence and video/photo/drone evidence.

On January 9, 2020, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Dispatcher Mindy Belger, answered a 9-1-1 call from 12 year old Andrew Gravil.  He proved to everyone he knows how to handle himself when faced with a traumatic event.

Sheriff's Office Spring Citizens' Academy

The Spring Citizens' Academy will begin on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 and will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The Academy will be conducted over a 10 week period, culminating in a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the disappearance of Gannon Stauch.  To date there have been 385 tips received, 2,656 hours of investigative work done by Sheriff’s Office in this case and over 3,600 staff hours put into the search efforts.  This has included large scale searches in addition to small, specific searches. The investigation and search processes continue to run parallel with one another.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office investigation continued today in the Lorson Ranch area.  Deputies re-canvassed Gannon's neighborhood and spoke with neighbors.  We did this in a systematic approach to ensure all residents have been interviewed because some may have been away at the time of the initial canvassing.  Those who are in the immediate vicinity of an incident may have useful information to provide.

On January 27, 2020, the Sheriff's Office took a report for a juvenile runaway, eleven year old Gannon Stauch. He was last seen on January 27th, 2020, in his home by his step-mother between 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM, he resides in the 6000 block of Mandan Drive, Security, Colorado.
