Sheriff's Office Investigating a Motor Vehicle Theft

The Sheriff's Office is investigating a motor vehicle theft that occurred in the 11500 block of Meridian Market View in unincorporated El Paso County, Colorado.

On July 20, 2022, an employee’s vehicle was stolen from the parking lot while the employee was working their shift in the store. The suspects arrived in a separate vehicle and backed their vehicle in the parking spot next to the victim’s vehicle before stealing it.

County Wide Stage One Fire Restrictions Lifted

Effective immediately Stage One Fire Restrictions have been lifted for El Paso County. We request you contact your local Fire Protection District or Department before engaging in any open burning that has been allowed in the past. Our county has various topographical features where some terrain may experience large amounts of moisture, but other portions remain dry and may have a higher risk of fire. 

Suspect in Officer Involved Shooting on Sanders View Identified

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, at approximately 9:16 p.m., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers responded to a Domestic Violence incident at a residence in the 4200 block of Sanders View. Upon arrival, they contacted an adult female who had obvious signs of injury.

Sheriff’s Office Tactical Support Group Takes Prolific Offender Into Custody After Brief Standoff

On June 30, 2022, just after noon, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were notified of an in-progress trespass occurring at a property in the 6800 block of Swan Road in the Black Forest area of unincorporated El Paso County.  When they arrived, they identified the suspect as Quinten Hickey, DOB: 11-19-1996.  Quinten was known to our deputies as a prolific offender and was wanted on several outstanding Felony warrants and whose behavior had recently become increasingly violent.

On July 4, 2022, a male inmate in the El Paso County Jail died while in custody.

At around 7:35 a.m., the inmate was found unresponsive in his assigned cell. Life saving measures were initiated by Sheriff's Office personnel and medical staff until responders from American Medical Response (AMR) and responders from the Colorado Springs Fire Department arrived and took over. Despite life saving measures, the inmate passed away.

At around 9:16 p.m., the inmate was found unresponsive in her assigned cell. Life saving measures were initiated by Sheriff's Office personnel and medical staff until responders from American Medical Response (AMR) and responders from the Colorado Springs Fire Department arrived and took over. Despite life saving measures, the inmate passed away.

Stage II Fire Restrictions Downgraded to Stage I

On June 3, 2022, at the recommendation of the members in the Pikes Peak Wildfire Preparedness (PPRWFP) group Sheriff Elder has downgraded Stage Two Fire Restrictions to Stage One Fire Restrictions for all of the unincorporated areas of El Paso County.  The Stage I Fire Restrictions shall go into effect immediately and the following are prohibited:

1.      Open burning, excepting fires and campfires within permanently constructed fire grates in developed

Sheriff’s Office Makes Arrest In Child Abduction Incident; Child Returned Unharmed

On June 21, 2022, just before 7:00AM, EPSO Deputies responded to a home in the 2000 block of Mount Herman Road in unincorporated El Paso County after residents there reported a non-custodial parent of a child who was in their care forced her way into the home, menaced them and abducted the child at gunpoint, and fled with the child.  The non-custodial parent and suspect was identified as Amber Green, DOB: 3-2-1984.

Sheriff’s Office Investigating Homicide on Old Stage Road

June 16, 2022 - 9:00am

On June 10, 2022, at approximately 1:07 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications center received information from a caller who reported finding a deceased male lying along a roadway in the 5200 block of Old Stage Road. This area is located in unincorporated El Paso County.

Deputies responded to the area and discovered a deceased adult male.

Detectives are working hard to determine who may have been involved with this death.

Human Remains Found Along Spruce Trail

On May 29, 2022, at around 6:30 p.m., two citizens walked into the Manitou Springs Police Department with a bag that contained a partial human skull and other bone fragments.

The two citizens were hiking near Spruce Trail (near the water tower) in Manitou Springs, Colorado, when they discovered the remains. 

Homicide Suspect Arrested

June 13, 2022 - 5:55pm

On June 11, 2022, at around 11:30 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a report of an active disturbance. 

The disturbance was ongoing within the 6100 block of Chaps View, located in Unincorporated El Paso within the city of Fountain. 

The caller said a family member was setting their house on fire and they needed help.

Man Arrested For Multiple Homicides in a Multi-Jurisdictional Investigation

Sheriff’s Deputies Save Suicidal Woman Who Jumped From Bridge

On May 12, 2022, just after 8:00 AM, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a bridge overpass over Highway 115 along South Academy Boulevard in unincorporated El Paso County.  Several passersby reported to Dispatch a woman appeared as if she was going to jump off the bridge.
 

Sheriff's Office Investigates Officer Involved Shooting on East Arvada Street

On Friday, May 13, 2022, around 9:50 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD)
Communications Center received a call of a Felony Menacing (weapon display) that occurred in the 200 block of East Arvada Street.

The caller said a man approached him in a parking lot and asked for a ride. When the caller refused to give the man a ride, the man grabbed him and pulled out a knife. The caller was able to break away from the man and call 911.

Unincorporated El Paso County Now In Stage II Fire Restrictions

Arrest Made in Felony Stalking Case

On May 6, 2021, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies received information of an alleged stalking incident.

The victim was able to name the suspect. The investigation involved allegations of Felony Stalking on a female victim by Daniel McShan (DOB:05/06/1982).

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division deputies arrested Daniel McShan and booked him into the El Paso County Jail on Felony Stalking.

On April 21, 2022, at approximately 4:57 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications center received information from a caller who reported finding a deceased male lying on the side of the road in the 20000 block of Longhorn Point. This area is located in unincorporated El Paso County within Hanover, Colorado. 

Deputies responded to the area and discovered a deceased adult male.

New K9 Coming to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office

In the coming months the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will be adding a new team member to their K9 Unit after securing sufficient funding. This funding will help the unit to obtain and train a new K9.

Vehicle Pursuit Results in Recovered Stolen Vehicle, Suspect Arrested and Fentanyl Seized

On April 20, 2022, just before 3:00 PM, El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies attempted to contact a person inside of a pickup truck with no license plate near Terminal Avenue and Conrad Street in the Cimarron Hills area of unincorporated El Paso County.  The person inside drove the vehicle away and a brief pursuit began.  The vehicle struck a curb and came to a stop in a drainage ditch a short distance away.  The driver then fled on foot but was arrested nearby.
