Sheriff Roybal’s Statement Condemning the Pearl Street Mall Attack

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal issued the following statement in response to the Pearl Street Mall attack in Boulder, Colorado:

“My Office mourns alongside the victims and their families following the tragic and senseless act of violence which occurred yesterday in Boulder.

“Acts of terrorism and hate have no place in Colorado or anywhere in our country.

“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains fully committed to standing with our local and federal law enforcement partners to protect the safety and well-being of our communities.

“I am deeply grateful to my deputies who responded swiftly to support the Boulder Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, helping to secure a residence connected to the investigation. I also want to express my sincere appreciation for all first responders whose immediate actions provided critical aid to the victims at the scene.

“This horrible incident underscores the importance of working with and collaborating with our federal law enforcement partners.”

Since December 2022, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has received three non-criminal calls for service (a juvenile contact and two 911 hang-up calls) to the residence on Washo Circle in unincorporated El Paso County, and four contacts, all of which were traffic stops, involving 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman.

The Boulder Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will provide all updates and information regarding the June 1st attack.
