On April 23 and 24, 2015, a victim's ENT credit card was fraudulently used at various stores in Colorado Springs, Monument, Castle Rock and Parker. It is unknown how the card was compromised.
The Colorado Springs stores were two separate Walgreens, an Albertsons and a Staples store. The card was also used at the Kohls in Monument, a Walgreens and McDonalds in Castle Rock, and the Staples store in Parker, with a total of $1,127.21 in fraudulent charges.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office new Rural Enforcement and Outreach (REO) Unit will host an “Open House” this Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 1010 Golden Street in Calhan, from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
In early 2015, Sheriff Bill Elder created the REO to support the Patrol Division in offering law enforcement services to the large expanses of eastern El Paso County.
On Friday, May 15, 2015, law enforcement agencies and military installations will gather at Memorial Park at 10:00 AM for the 22nd Annual Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers' Memorial Day Service. The memorial service honors the 30 Pikes Peak area peace officers who have given their lives in the line of duty since 1895. The keynote speaker for the event is Mike Ensminger, the Sheriff of Teller County.

Nationwide Groupon Campaign Raises Over $335,000 for Law Enforcement K-9 Bullet and Stab Protective Vests
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office K-9's Nash, Axel, and Blitz will be receiving ballistic vests thanks to a nationwide GROUPON EVENT that has raised over $335,000. Axel is 5 years old, started with the agency June of 2010, and he is a German Shepherd Dog. Blitz is 5 years old, started with the agency in September of 2011, and he is a German Shepherd Dog. Nash is 2 years old, started with the agency in April of 2014, and he is a Malanois.
After careful consideration and consultation by staff of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Colorado Springs Police Department, The Sheriff’s Office would like to announce that effective Thursday, April 30, the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center (CJC) will no longer participate in the 287(g) Program and will not continue to hold inmates that have been detained under the Program who have no local or Federal charges pending.
On Thursday, April 30, 2015, and Friday, May 1, 2015, the Sheriff’s Office is participating in a Multi-Jurisdictional Search effort to locate a missing person. Timothy Lee Copley was last seen on June 20, 2014. This case was handled by a volunteer who kept an ongoing dialogue with the family since Mr. Copley went missing.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is experiencing a rash of daytime residential burglaries in the Black Forest area as far north as County Line Road south to Woodmen Road, with a concentration of cases occurring in the area of Burgess Road, Black Forest Road, and Vollmer Road. Forced entry is being made and small electronics, cash, and firearms are being targeted.

On January 23, 2015, the Sheriff’s Office began investigating a Forgery case. The victim, who lives in South King County, Washington, mailed a check to a relative in El Paso County. The check did not arrive. The victim reported 13 checks totaling $1,846.43 were cashed from the victim’s bank account.
On Saturday, April 11, 2015, while conducting follow-up Deputy Gallagher received a call from the victim stating an unknown male had called him and returned the majority of his stolen property, which included a wallet, three social security cards, and a Ruger 10/22 long rifle from a theft which occurred sometime between the hours of 7:30 PM, Thursday, April 9, 2015, and 7:30 AM, Friday, April 10, 2015.
A theft occurred sometime between April 9, 2015, at 7:30 PM and this morning, April 10, 2015 at 7:30 AM, in the 4600 block of Mazana Drive. A wallet, two social security cards, and a Ruger 10/22 long rifle were stolen.
After the theft, at 8:22 AM this morning, the victim’s debit card was used at the 7-11 located at 1810 Main Street. At 8:35 AM, it was used again at the Falcon Wal-Mart. The clerk at the 7-11 indicated the suspects are frequent customers.
On April 3, 2015, the Sheriff's Office received a call about fraudulent charges. The victim explained that on Wednesday April 1, 2015, between the hours of 1:06 PM and 3:07 PM, five illegal purchases were made on a credit card in his name.

EL PASO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES RESERVE ACADEMY 2015-1R
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the 2015 Reserve Academy. The Reserve Section consists of community minded volunteers who are trained in both Law Enforcement and Detention Operations. The Reserve Section provides a qualified, trained volunteer workforce to augment the full-time deputies in a variety of job functions and is invaluable to us in accomplishing our Mission.
The El Paso County Communications Center, along with Sheriff Elder, will be recognizing two 9-1-1 Heros on Friday March 27, 2015, at 3:00 P.M. at the Office of the Sheriff, 27 E. Vermijo Avenue, in the 3rd Floor Community Room.
During 2014, detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a theft case involving multiple firearms, to include semi-automatic assault rifles.
On March 8, 2015, at approximately 11:30 P.M., deputies were dispatched to the Shots Tavern, located at 1831 Main Street for a fight involving a gun. As deputies were responding, they were advised there had been shots fired.
The Law Enforcement Polar Plunge is an annual event to help raise funds for the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics provides impactful sports and leadership opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. This year's motto is "Freezin for a Reason."

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the first Citizens’ Academy being held in 2015.
The Citizens’ Academy will begin on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, and will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Academy will be conducted over a nine week period, culminating in a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
The Sheriff's Office has received intelligence of another scam. In these new cases the suspects are using the Sheriff's Office Dispatch number of 719-390-5555. This can be done by using an application called "Spoof Card". This application allows the suspect to use any legitimate phone number to call from with intent of victimizing people for large amounts of money. In these recent instances, the suspect spoke with a heavy Indian accent.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office recently became aware of a forgery case pertaining to the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Funds account. When inmates are released from the Criminal Justice Center (CJC) they are issued a check with the Sheriff’s Office account information at the bottom.
During the past few days, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office has received information of fraud which involved impersonation of a Deputy Sheriff.
On both occasions the victims received a phone call where the caller identified themselves as a Deputy from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The suspect told the victims they each had a warrant and needed to report to the Sheriff's Office at 27 E. Vermijo Avenue to make a $1,000 payment to clear up the warrant.
On January 22, 2015, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen vehicle. As deputies responded to the address, the suspect fled the residence on foot. Initial attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful. Further investigation revealed the identity of the suspect as being Antonio Reddell, a white males, 25 years of age, and a Colorado Springs resident. Reddell was wanted on multiple felony counts including Motor Vehicle Theft.
