Undersheriff Joseph Breister Retires After 32 Years of Dedicated Service

Mar 27, 2019 - 10:37am

Undersheriff Joseph Breister is retiring after 32 years of dedicated service to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.  He began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in January 1987 as the first out-of-state lateral transfer in patrol.  During his career, he served in numerous assignments including Patrol, Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence, Internal Affairs, Investigations and Training.

Undersheriff Breister holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, attended the FBI National Academy and received numerous awards to include The Hundred Club and the Derald Gautier Memorial Award.  Prior to his career with the Sheriff’s Office, he was a police officer in Wisconsin and served in the Air Force.

Undersheriff Breister is leaving a remarkable legacy behind and one which will remain with us for years to come.  He is leaving the office a better place than when he found it, and that in itself, will remain a lasting tribute to his friendship, leadership and professionalism.

His retirement ceremony will be held tomorrow, March 28, 2019, 2:00 PM, at Centennial Hall, located at 200 S. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Co 80903.
