Victim in Shooting at Value Succumbs to Injuries

On April 22, 2018, at approximately 12:46 AM, a clerk at the Value Inn located at 6875 Space Village Avenue, called the Sheriff’s Office to report a man with a gun.  As units were responding to the area, dispatch received another call that a man was shot and lying in the middle of the road.  The suspect was reported to have took off on foot.

Units arrived on scene and found a male party lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.  Additional units arrived and searched for the suspect.  The victim was transported to the hospital with life threatening wounds.

Through the course of the investigation, it was learned the suspect ran into a room in the Value Inn.  Evacuations were made to surrounding rooms and we attempted to call the room.  The suspect did not answer so we made announcements for him to exit the room.  He complied and was taken into custody. 
 
On April 25, 2018, at 7:30 PM, the victim succumbed to injuries related to the gunshot wounds sustained on April 22, 2018.  An autopsy is pending.

The suspect who has been identified as David Rhoads, DOB: 7/16/79 is now facing a First-Degree Murder charge in addition to Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender and Identity Theft charges.
