On March 27, 2023, just before 1:45 am, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a call reporting a burglary in progress in the 800 block of Hathaway Dr., located in the Cimarron Hills area of unincorporated El Paso County. When deputies arrived on scene, they heard shots fired in the immediate area. Shortly thereafter an adult male was discovered on scene with at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been positively identified by the Coroner’s Office as 43-year-old Anthony Padilla.  Our sincere condolences to Anthony Padilla’s family and friends.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division is actively working the case and following up on available leads. There is no ongoing threat to the public.
