The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Releases Update on Carson Midway Fire

Mar 19, 2018 - 5:00am

The Carson Midway Fire is now out except for tires and trash piles that are actively burning and smoking in the 20800 block of Prairie Fire Point.  All fire personnel from El Paso County, Pueblo County and Fort Carson have cleared the fire.  Fire personnel from Hanover Fire Department will continue to provide roving patrol of the fire area to monitor the tires and trash piles until they completely burn out.

The homes near the 20800 block of Prairie Fire Point will continue to remain evacuated until it is safe to re-enter that area. For those who can't return home, please feel free to contact the Red Cross for services or assistance at (800)-417-0495.

For those residents that have returned home, we would like to remind them that El Paso County Public Health is available to provide aid with fire clean up and re-entry guidelines.  Please visit www.elpasocountyhealth.org for more information.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all our agency partners who assisted in addressing the fire and providing resources and personnel including the Fountain Fire Department, Hanover Fire Department, Security Fire Department, Air Force Academy, Ft. Carson, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso County OEM Hazardous Material Team, Red Cross, and El Paso County Public Health.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Updates will come from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office as they become available.
