The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Justice Center Receives Medical Accreditation

April 30, 2018

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Justice Center (CJC) underwent a National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) audit in October 2017.  The Sheriff’s Office received formal results of this audit in December of 2017, where NCCHC placed the Criminal Justice Center facility on probation.  Following receipt of documentation showing implemented protocols which brought the Criminal Justice Center into compliance, the NCCHC’s Accreditation Committee finalized the review, granting formal NCCHC accreditation to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center in December of 2017.

The National Commission on Correctional Health Care is dedicated to improving the quality of correctional health services and helping correctional facilities provide effective and efficient care.  The standards are NCCHC’s recommended requirements for the proper management of a correctional health services delivery system.  There are 67 standards with 65 being applicable to the Criminal Justice Center.  NCCHC has declared 96% compliance with 64 applicable standards, fully certifying the facility accredited with NCCHC.  CJC has been accredited by NCCHC since 1989.

The letter of Accreditation dated April 22, 2018, the Certificate of Accreditation, as well as a summary of corrective action which brought the Criminal Justice Center into compliance can be viewed by clicking on this link: https://www.epcsheriffsoffice.com/sites/default/files/resources/press-re...

"I fully believe in the accreditation process.  I am grateful to the medical provider, Armor for coming into compliance so quickly after taking over this new contract.  I would like to express my appreciation for the members of the NCCHC committee for holding us accountable to best practices as is relates to inmate care.  I would be remiss if I didn't thank each and every employee who works at the Criminal Justice Center.  You are a dedicated group of individuals and I could not be more proud of you all."
