Suspect Identified in Officer Involved Shooting on Galley Road and Arrawanna Street

Jan 13, 2020 - 6:40am

On Saturday, January 11, 2020, at approximately 11:57 PM, an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Galley Road and Arrawanna Street.  The traffic stop was initiated due an expired license plate registration.

The male suspect shot at the officers who returned fire.  During the incident at least one round was fired at the suspect by the officer.  The suspect drove away from the scene and later was involved in a traffic accident at Pikes Peak Avenue and Dunsmere Street.  He then fled the scene on foot.

The suspect has now been identified as Randy Bishop, DOB: 03/12/1984.  Bishop is also wanted on a CSPD case where he escaped custody of a CSPD detective while at Memorial Hospital.  In November 2019, the CSPD Detective pursued Bishop down a hall where a physical altercation ensued, during which time Bishop assaulted the detective and took control of his firearm. At least one shot was then fired by Bishop.

Bishop is considered armed and extremely dangerous.  He has at least one Arrest Warrant for the charge of Attempted Murder.

Bishop's photo is attached to this press release.

This is still an on-going investigation.
