Suspect Identified in Officer Involved Shooting

On Tuesday, February 21, at approximately 5:00 PM, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a home in the 2900 block of Illinois Ave in search of a suspect wanted on felony domestic violence charges.  Upon arrival, a person matching the description of the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle with officers in pursuit.

In the 2900 block of Templeton Gap, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot with officers in pursuit. The suspect forcibly entered a home in the 2800 block of Elm Meadow View, confronted the occupants with a gun in his hand, and stole their vehicle, fleeing the scene with officers in pursuit.  CSPD officers forcibly stopped the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Circle Drive and Palmer Park Avenue and shots were fired. 

The suspect was taken to Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries.  The suspect has been identified as Misael Macias Cano DOB: 072377. 

The officers involved were uninjured and have been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy.

The Sheriff’s Office has also confirmed police body camera footage has been retrieved, preserved and is being reviewed as part of the investigation.  

A photo of Mr. Cano is attached to this Media Release.  The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer involved shooting. This is an ongoing investigation and information will be released as the investigation allows.
