Sheriff's Office Warns of Phone Scam

Dec 1, 2017 - 9:10am

The Sheriff's Office has received intelligence of another scam.  In these new cases the suspects are using the name of Sergeant Price.  The messages range from having warrants out for their arrest to civil judgments, in addition to missing a court date.  We have had over 20 reports of this scam, just this week.

At times the phone number can appear to be a legitimate number with the Sheriff's Office. This can be done by using an application called "Spoof Card".  This application allows the suspect to use any legitimate phone number to call from with intent of victimizing people for large amounts of money.  The suspects in these cases have been asking the potential victims to call 719-582-5311.  The voice mail answers as though it is the Sheriff's Office.

If someone calls you claiming to be an employee with the Sheriff's Office and is asking for money for any reason, please hang up and call your local law enforcement agency.

Again, the Sheriff's Office would like to remind citizens that our Office NEVER calls and informs individuals they have an active warrant and NEVER asks individuals to make payments to clear up a warrant.  We will also NEVER call to ask for money, for any reason.

If you have information about or have fallen victim to this scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
