Sheriff's Office Investigating Multiple Vehicle Break-ins

Oct 26, 2020 - 3:35am

In recent months, there has been an increase of vehicle break-ins at trail heads. Preliminary investigation has revealed suspects watching for victims to hide purses/wallets in their vehicle. They wait until it's clear then smash windows to steal those hidden items. In many instances they immediately go to a nearby store to use the stolen credit cards to purchase big ticket items as well as gift cards.

We believe this is a group effort and they are hitting numerous trail heads along the front range. These crimes only take a matter of seconds. Three factors must be present for a crime to occur: desire, ability and opportunity. You can have a significant impact on their opportunity to do so, by being aware of your surroundings, securing your vehicle, and never leaving items of value in your vehicle.

We have attached one still image obtained from video surveillance footage, we will not be releasing any video footage at this time. If you recognize this suspect we urge you to contact us.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for anyone with information regarding these cases to call our Tip Line at 719-520-6666.
