Sheriff's Office Arrests Suspect Involved in Fleeing Stolen Vehicle

Jan 4, 2023 - 3:55pm

On January 3, 2023, at around 11:37 p.m., two El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies were in the area of South Powers Boulevard and Milton E. Proby Parkway when they initiated a traffic stop. They initiated a traffic stop on a stolen white Chevrolet Colorado truck. The vehicle did not stop and ran a red light while eluding the deputies. An El Paso County Sheriff's Office sergeant called off the pursuit due to safety concerns with traffic in the area.

At around 11:51 p.m., two El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies observed the same vehicle traveling north on Powers Boulevard near Airport Road. The deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle at which point it moved into the southbound lanes of Powers Boulevard against the flow of traffic causing a head on collision with a Jeep. Sheriff's Officer personnel were immediately on scene and coordinated a medical response.

The driver and a passenger of the suspect vehicle fled on foot and the deputies pursued. Another passenger remained in the truck and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) assisted in the search for the suspects. They were able to locate one of them nearby identified as Chase Sellers, date of birth (March 15, 1996) who was arrested then transported to a local hospital with non-threatening injuries.

He has since been released from the hospital and booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:
First Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft,
Theft of License Plate, Accessory to a Crime,
Eluding (2 counts), and Obstructing a Peace Officer. His mugshot is attached to this media release.

The second suspect who fled, Kenneth Kaufman-Magallanez, date of birth (October 10, 1988) is still at large and wanted for felony and misdemeanor crimes. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact us through either our non-emergency line, 719-390-5555 or our Tip Line, 719-520-7777.

CSPD will be the lead investigating agency for the traffic crash. Additional information will be released from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Public Information Office as the investigation allows.
