Sheriff’s Office Stepping Up Impaired Driving Enforcement Through the Labor Day Holiday

Aug 23, 2019 - 2:39am

On Saturday, August 24, 2019, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will partner with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and law enforcement agencies nationwide for the “Saturation Saturday” campaign. The community can expect to see highly visible and proactive traffic enforcement starting Saturday through September 3, for the Labor Day Holiday.  Many of our patrol vehicles will be outfitted with a “red ribbon” in honor of victims and survivors of impaired driving.

The importance of this kind of enforcement is clear from the statistics, El Paso County has led Colorado in the number of reported traffic deaths in the last two years with alcohol or drugs being a factor in many of those incidents. Impaired driving is 100% preventable. We encourage drivers to designate a sober driver, call a taxi or rideshare to get home safely.

“We hope you will join us in this critical campaign to keep our roadways safe from impaired drivers. The Sheriff’s Office will have zero tolerance for drivers that choose to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.” ~ Sheriff Bill Elder
