Inmate Who Escaped from El Paso County Jail Back in Custody

On October 18, 2020, at approximately 11:45 AM, an inmate who was housed in the Sprung Structure on the El Paso County Jail campus scaled the barbed wire fence and escaped from custody of the El Paso County Jail.

Multiple resources from the Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies were deployed and the inmate was located in less than an hour, was treated for his injuries, and booked back into the jail.

The inmate has been identified as Steven Crist, DOB: 4/18/85.  His original charges were 2nd Degree Burglary and Violation of a Restraining Order.  He is now facing an additional charge of Escape with the potential for other charges.

The events which led to this escape are currently under investigation.
