On April 4, 2020, at approximately 9:55 AM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail. 

A male inmate was walking to the restroom and fell, hitting his head. The Ward Deputy responded immediately to provide medical aid.  The male inmate was conscious and stated he felt dizzy right before he fell.

He was transported to the medical section where medical staff made the determination to dial 9-1-1.  He was transported to the hospital and later passed away.

The inmate has been identified by the Coroner's Office as Steve Carrasco, age 64.  His death was in no way connected to the COVID-19 virus.  Toxicology results are still pending.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Carrasco's family and friends.
