Barricaded Suspect Taken into Custody on Main Street

Apr 12, 2020 - 1:42pm

On April 12, 2020, at approximately 10:57 AM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a call regarding a Restraining Order Violation in the 1000 block of Main Street, located in Security, Colorado.

The suspect was later identified as Thomas Flores, DOB: 07/13/1978.

The female caller was able to get out of the home safely with her children.  Patrol units arrived and set up containment.  Based on threats made toward law enforcement and his refusal to exit the residence, the Tactical Support Unit was paged out and took control of the scene at approximately 12:45 PM.  The Sheriff's Office Crisis Negotiations Unit were also on scene.

At approximately 2:35 PM, Flores exited from the garage.  He was armed with a tire reamer, charged at deputies and attempted to assault them with the weapon.  Several deputies worked to get Flores under control.  He was eventually disarmed, taken into custody and transported to the nearest hospital to check for injuries.

After being medically cleared, Flores was booked into the El Paso County Jail on 2 counts of Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Multiple Counts of Assault on a Peace Officer, and Violation of a Restraining Order (Domestic Violence).

A mug shot of Flores is attached to this media release.
