Jul 26, 2023 - 9:00am

On July 7, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m., El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a robbery at The State Bank on McLaughlin Road in Unincorporated El Paso County.

Upon arrival, deputies were advised an adult black male had entered the lobby and pointed a gun at the five bank employees. The suspect ordered the employees to give him money. The employees complied, placing an unknown amount of money, into a black backpack the suspect brought in with him.

A video review showed the suspect entering the bank at 4:58 p.m. and departing at 4:59 p.m. When exiting the building, the suspect walked east toward a car wash where a vehicle and driver were waiting. Only employees were inside the bank at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.

Afterwards, detectives with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division identified the bank robber as Dakota Walker (DOB 6/27/96) and the getaway driver as Joshua Harris (DOB 2/6/94).

Joshua Harris used a vehicle registered in his name during the robbery. Harris' vehicle was located near the 2000 black of N. Academy Boulevard on July 14, 2023. He was confirmed to be working in one of the businesses at the location. The Colorado Springs Police Department Tactical Enforcement Unit partnered with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and attempted to apprehend Harris. He briefly barricaded himself inside the business but was taken into custody shortly after without incident.

Dakota Walker, the alleged bank robber, was taken into custody on July 21, 2023, in Kansas by the Lenexa Police Department.  At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of numerous items of evidence relating to the robbery.

Harris was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $50,000 bond. He is being charged with one count of Aggravated Robbery, five counts of Felony Menacing, and one count of Theft.
