Sheriff’s Office Makes Second Arrest in Recent Homicide

Oct 25, 2022 - 12:40pm

On October 10, 2022, just before 2:00AM, El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies, along with the Stratmoor Hills Fire Department and numerous other fire agencies, responded to a large fire in a homeless camp near B Street in unincorporated El Paso County.  Several RVs and other motor vehicles were found to be engulfed in flames.

Later that morning, just before 6:30AM, the Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a man who appeared to have been shot behind a business a short distance away from the fire scene along B Street. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult male with at least one stab wound to his chest identified as 49 year old Jose Delgado-Diaz.  Deputies performed life-saving measures on him but unfortunately he died on scene.

As a result of our initial investigation and as was previously reported, Gregory Paul Lee, DOB: 02/25/1958, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder in connection to the death of Mr. Delgado-Diaz.  Additionally, Gabriel Lee Clark, DOB: 01/29/2002, was identified as a suspect as well.

On October 21, 2022, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office detectives, along with deputies with our Patrol Division, located and detained Clark in a homeless encampment near B Street.  Based on a subsequent interview of Clark and other evidence obtained during this investigation, probable cause was found to also arrest and charge him with First Degree Murder in connection to the death of Mr. Delgado-Diaz.  Clark was henceforth booked into the El Paso County Jail on this charge.  His booking photo is attached to this media release.

This continues to be an active investigation.  Further significant updates will come via media release.
