Commander Lari Hanenberg


Lari is a native of Colorado Springs and graduated from Wasson High School. She has an Associates Degrees in Criminal Justice with a discipline in Investigations and another Associates Degree with a discipline in Patrol.

She began her career with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in 1996. She has worked in the Administrative Bureau and the Detentions Bureau and has been assigned positions in Detention Security, Intake and Release, Court Services, Special Response Team Lieutenant, Inmate Programs, Internal Affairs, Public Information Officer, and is currently the Commander of the Professional Standards Division. 

She was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and was a supervisor over Floor Security, Intake and Release and assigned in Internal Affairs. She was promoted to Lieutenant in 2007 where she was assigned in Floor Security, Public Information Officer, Intake and Release, Court Services, and Inmate Programs.

She was promoted to Commander in 2021 and is currently oversees the Professional Standards Division. This encompasses Internal Affairs, Evidence, Media Relations, Public Information Office, Community Relations, Honor Guard and Accreditation. 

Lari is married to her amazing husband Jeff; they have 5 children and two dogs. Her oldest is married, adding a 6th “child” to the family.  Lari and her family enjoy camping, watching movies, being involved with their church, and spending time with friends and family.
