Commander Lari Hanenberg

Lari is a native of Colorado Springs and graduated from Wasson High School. She has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice with a discipline in Investigations and another Associates Degree with a discipline in Patrol.

She began her career with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in 1996. She has worked in the Administrative Bureau and the Detentions Bureau and has been assigned positions in Detention Security, Intake and Release, Court Services, Inmate Programs, Internal Affairs, and the Public Information Officer.

She was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and was a supervisor assigned in Detention Security, Inmate Classification, Intake and Release, and Internal Affairs. She was promoted to Lieutenant in 2007, where she was assigned to Detention Security, Public Information Officer, Intake and Release, Court Services, Special Response Team Lieutenant, and Inmate Programs.

She was promoted to Commander in 2021 and was assigned in the Professional Standards Division which encompassed Internal Affairs, Evidence, Media Relations, Public Information Office, Community Relations, Honor Guard and Accreditation.  She currently oversees the Detention Operations Division. The division includes Intake and Release, Court Services, Jail Based Behavioral Health Services (JBBS), Gateways Through the Rockies, and the Special Response Team.

Lari is married to her amazing husband Jeff; they have five children and two dogs. Her oldest is married, adding a sixth “child” to the family.  Lari and her family enjoy camping, watching movies, being involved with their church, and spending time with friends and family.
