General Information

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Cadet Program is an exciting innovative opportunity where young people can learn about careers in Law Enforcement and Detentions.

The Cadet Program has a number of Cadet Advisors. All the cadet advisors are deputies with the Sheriff’s Office.

The program meets twice per month and Cadets receive training in all areas of service provided by the Sheriff's Office. Training topics include community oriented policing, crime prevention, crime scene investigation, patrol & detention procedures, report writing, traffic control, radio procedures, first aid and the history of law enforcement. Additionally, Cadets participate in numerous community events, community service, special functions and ride-a-longs throughout the year.

Cadets are volunteer members of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Applicants to the Sheriff’s Office Cadet Program should be fourteen years old, and have graduated the eighth grade. The most important criteria for acceptance into the program are maturity and a genuine interest in the law enforcement and detentions careers. Once accepted, Cadets are required to maintain a "C" average in school and be of good moral character.

To apply, simply complete and submit an application. Once the application has been received, candidates will be contacted and given instructions on the application process. Successful acceptance to the program will include an interview and a background check.
