The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Fleet Services section services and maintains 300 + vehicles currently assigned to the Sheriff’s Office fleet. The vehicles serviced include small trailers and patrol vehicles thru large specialty vehicles such as SWAT’s Lenco Bear, and the Sheriff’s Office Mobile Command Posts. The scope of work performed at Fleet ranges from routine scheduled maintenance, minor and major repairs to preparing new vehicles for service. Fleet personnel are responsible for the installation of light bars, police radios, radars, mobile data computers and installation of all other equipment prior to the vehicle being placed into service. They are also responsible for the decommissioning of units at their end of useful service life.
During 2014, Sheriff’s Office fleet vehicles drove approximately 3 million miles with more than 1908 work orders completed by the Fleet Services section. Fleet Services purchased approximately $528,676.47 in fuel and $52,718.46 in tires for calendar year 2014.
During calendar year 2013, Fleet Services personnel will commission just over 60 new vehicles to the Sheriff’s Office fleet. Seventeen current vehicles will be decommissioned and replaced with new vehicles. As a result of the passage of 1A, forty-one new vehicles have been purchased for new personnel coming to the Law Enforcement Bureau. Thirty-five marked units will be assigned to the Patrol Division and six unmarked vehicles were purchased for new personnel assigned to the Investigations Division. Additionally, three unmarked units were purchased for the Civil section to replace aging units that will be going out of service.
